High school is a time for growth. Obviously you will physically change, but the things you know and believe will change too. The friends you have when you enter high school won't be the same ones you leave with. You'll learn what you really like and what really ticks you off. Here are a few things to know and to hold as inspiration for those who are looking forward to his or her high school career.
1. Sometimes there are cookies.
Once at a school function, a parent brought cookies for everyone. Said parent had earlier really ruffled my feathers, so I turned into an angry bird and stole the cookies he had for everyone.
2. Breaking and entering is not a crime (or so says me.)

I can get into my high school even if the doors are locked. It is important to be able to do this because you never know when you'll need some sun screen or the air horn you left in your locker.
3. Fire is your friend.

Once I almost burned my lab partner's face off with a Bunsen burner. We were lab partners every time after that, and we are now best friends.
4. Gum needs a bodyguard.
If you look like you're angry, no one will ask you for gum or pencils. Practice your RBF. Mine was perfect, and I never had to give my hard-earned gum sticks away. (Research RBF if you're unfamiliar.)
5. Aretha needs a Respect 101 class.

"Respect has to be earned" is the biggest double standard in high school. True, respect must be earned; however, that is a two-way street. Contrary to the belief of most high school teachers (especially ones of the arts department), as hormonal teenagers, we are not filled with love and respect. If we don't feel welcomed and respected, we will reciprocate that behavior.
Just let it happen and learn from it. High school is also the time to figure out what you want to do! With the variety of subjects and classes, there is a space for everyone to find his or her niche. You may find several niches. Even better!
