If you don't know who Iliza Shlesinger is, you're doing life wrong. So thank your lucky stars because I'm here to set you straight.
Iliza, 33, is originally from Texas, but moved to Los Angeles to chase after her career in comedy, and in my humble opinion, she caught it. Iliza is best known for her comedy specials now streaming on Netflix, War Paint and Freezing Hot, but she has been on-screen quite a few times. She hosted the dating show, Excused, from 2011-2013, and the game show, Seperation Anxiety that aired early this year.
She is also HUGE with social media. SnapChat seems to be her favorite form of communication with the outside world, but she uses Twitter and Instagram pretty often as well. If you do end up following her on any of these platforms, you will meet her dog, AKA, the best thing to ever grace this planet: Blanche.
She introduces Blanche to the crowd in War Paint and the world instantly fell in love with her. Earlier in the special, she had made a couple comments about the infamous Sarah McLachlan ASPCA commercials and innocently (sort of) poked fun at the adoption advertisements. She brings Blanche onstage and confesses that even she fell week and adopted Blanche. You can't really blame her, though. How could you resist this face?
When it comes to her comedic style, Shlesinger is open and unapologetic with everything she does. While she talks about many, many hilarious topics throughout her specials, she seems to be focusing on society's expectations on romance and gender roles.
One bit that stood out was her story about a break-up. She had opened explaining that instead of dreaming and planning a marriage, she dreamed and planned break-ups, specifically, break-ups in the rain. She goes through a play-by-play of the hilarious retelling of the separation from the poor soul and keeps the audience hooked every second. The poor guy never even saw it coming.
While her stories about romantic mishaps are forever entertaining, she also delves into the expectations and behaviors of modern day women outside the romantic world. She goes into the joys of Pinterest, Fall, and Pumpkin Spice and nails 100% of it, and that was all just in Freezing Hot.
This is a particularly exciting time for Shlesinger fans, as she has yet another Netflix special scheduled to grace our lives on September 23rd. Titled "Confirmed Kills", it promises to tackle the popular show Shark Tank, and the return of our favorite little Shlesinger original, the infamous Party Goblin.
Please, go forth and watch the brilliant comedian that is Iliza Shlesinger. I promise, from the very depths of my heart, you will not be disappointed, my friends.
