If our family isn't watching football or golf, we're watching hockey. Sadly, it is near the end of the season for the Columbus Blue Jackets, and I’m certainly going to miss it once it’s over. I decided to put together a list (with help from the family of course) of what it is like being a CBJ fan. You never know what is going to happen with this team, and they certainly take us on their own special journey.
First thing’s first – LEO!
Every CBJ fan knows Mr. Leo Welsh. He's the guy that got a degree in Voice from Ohio University. He found out about auditions to sing the national anthem for the Blue Jackets through his wife via the radio. When those auditions got down to the final four, the CBJ fans voted for their favorite.
Screaming "Leo" inside the Nationwide Arena before he sings is always a great way to start the evening.
The cannon!
Since most of Ohio's population was dedicated to the Union Army, the cannon symbolizes the celebration of patriotism, pride and Civil War history.
Some games we hear it quite a bit and others... not so much.
We are the fifth line!
The saying shows the support fans have for their players and city. After the first four lines of players, there is us--the fans. We are the 5th line, and we are here to back up our team.
I guess we can be fairly entertaining.
That Bob/Foligno Hug!
There is nothing better than seeing comradeship between your captain and goalie.
No matter what, you just gotta hug it out.
Moments like these are pretty great!
Chili!
Third time's the charm = free chili.
Three goals, and it's time to go to Roosters.
Jody Shelley
His playing career started in 1998 and lasted until 2013. Eight of those years were here at Columbus.
Ex-player now a commentator? Sounds good to us.
Appreciating the wins because you don’t always get them
For real though.
Cherishing them all.
And lastly, it's a great way to get through the winter.
Can't wait until next season, boys!
