10 Basic Essentials To Bring With You To College

Thinking about what to bring to college can be so stressful. I know that from experience of my own. If you are anything like me, you have no idea where to begin. How much clothes do I bring? Do I need to bring all my shoes? Should I just bring my entire room? It is so nerve racking trying to pack, because what are you suppose to bring with you when you are basically moving out of your house? For me, since I lived in a dorm my first year of college, I made packing a lot harder than it should have been, because I didn't want to over pack for me to move everything out again nine months later. Even though I did over pack, I made it through the year just fine. I had a lot of unnecessary stuff, but I had a lot of things I definitely could not of made it through the year without. Here is a list of just the basics that you will need to bring with you to college.

1. Walking shoes

You will be doing plenty of walking around campus, wear good shoe!

2. A planner

Getting a planner will save your life. It will make your life so much easier and organized.

3. A comfy mattress topper

Thank me for this one later.

4. Shower caddy

This will be so easy to put all of your shower stuff in a caddy and bring to the shower

5. Shower shoes

If you are a germ freak like me, shower shoes will be your best friend for the community bathrooms.

6. An umbrella

You will be glad you brought your umbrella with you to class when a pop up thunder storm appears out of know where.

7. A fan

Believe me when I say you will be glad you brought a fan. The air conditioner in a dorm is not the best.

8. Lots of air fresheners

Those of us who lived in a dorm know that the dorms do not smell the freshest. A little air freshener never hurt anybody.

9. Appropriate clothes for the appropriate time of year

You do not need to bring your entire closet. Bring summer clothes for summer weather and winter clothes for winter weather.

10. School supplies (obviously)

This includes your laptop, pencils, pens, papers, the essentials.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
