School time: the time when people want to start off right. For me, college has already started and I don’t feel overwhelmed…yet. Every semester I try to make goals and plans that I want to stick with throughout the semester, but that isn’t always an easy thing to do. I am going to list my top five ideas on how to start off right.
First: Organize
I used to never be organized. I would leave my desk a mess and there would always be things on my floor. It took me until college to realize that if I didn’t organize, I would be lost. In my room at school, my desk is very organized and there is nothing on my floor except for a rug. I know which drawers have what in it and I know exactly where everything is.
Second: Make notes (and a lot of them!)
I tend to forget my assignments very easily unless I write them down somewhere. Throughout the semester I will have my wall full of post-it notes with things I need to accomplish and they may not all be school related. I might need to take the trash out or clean the bathroom but as long as I write it down, I won’t forget to do it.
Third: Stay on top of assignments
Staying on top of assignments as well as other things is very important when wanting to start the school year off right. You also wouldn’t want to procrastinate on assignments either even though a lot of the times it’s difficult to do that. Every assignment that we are assigned means we are responsible to do them even if we have no desire to.
Fourth: Decorate
One of my favorite things to do in my room is decorating. I make it feel like I am at home. I hang up posters, pictures, Christmas lights, maybe notes I received throughout the semester and anything to make me feel at home. Once my room is complete with decorations, I start to feel more at home and I am able to concentrate more on my studies.
Fifth: SLEEP!
I know that college may seem like fun all the time, but if you don’t sleep, you will regret it in the morning. Sure, there may be times when all you want to do is hang out, but in retrospect, we did pay for the classes we are taking and we wouldn’t want to fail the class for being tired. Getting enough sleep will improve your study methods and your time management.
Everyone wants to succeed in their school career. I listed a few ideas on how to do so and there are plenty more to choose from as well. I am a junior in college and I have done these ideas and they have helped me tremendously throughout each semester. Every idea works differently depending on the person and some ideas may or may not work. Everyone works in different ways. The best thing to do is to find the right idea that works best for you and to stick with it. It may take a while until you find the right one but that doesn’t mean you should stop trying if it seems hopeless. There is something out there for everyone!
