Coming from a high school where basketball was the number one sport, I began to wonder why basketball had such a small crowd here at Penn State. As much as we claim to hate the bitter cold weather there's one reason we all wouldn't mind standing in the cold and that's Penn State football! If only we could add the same amount of excitement and energy to basketball games... but how. Is it the exciting tailgating atmosphere that attracts so many people to football? I personally enjoy all sports because they're all adrenaline filled and keeps me at the edge of my seat.
I go to both the football and basketball games and you can definitely say there is a calmer atmosphere inside the Bryce Jordan Center compared to the Beaver Stadium. Imagine bringing the same energy from the Beaver stadium to the Bryce Jordan center. Since the games are indoors and I know many of us enjoy face paint and body paint, this is the perfect environment to get game festive and be warm at the same time!
We have the best student section in the world for football, but why not basketball? Other Universities go all out for every sport and I think we should be just as supportive to every sport and get the energy and positive vibes in the Bryce Jordan Center just like the Beaver Stadium! On the bright side, Basketball is an indoors sport, so you will be warm and having just as much fun at the same time!
If you have friends who are die hard football fans, bring them to a basketball game with you and let them experience the heat from the court! Not to mention the outstanding seats in the student section. Season tickets are a great price to come out and support the basketball team, did I mention it comes with an awesome T-shirt and a poster! So if you've already dedicated your weekends to staying in until the weather gets warm, I can guarantee you the walk to the Bryce Jordan Center will be totally worth it!
I understand we are a football school, but we can be just as big in basketball. If you haven't been out to a Penn State Basketball game I suggest you check it out! I went Friday and I had a great experience, I plan on going back again and bringing more of my friends to experience it as well! All sports at Penn State are awesome and the energy here is unlike no other, but I think we can be even louder as a student section for every sport.
