Football season is well under way. We won't have any games until August but between spring football games and the NFL draft, I could not be more excited for the college football season. There is not a more polarizing sport than college ball. The NFL is perfect for a lazy Sunday filled with day drinking and procrastinating homework. Sunday is the perfect day for a full slate of NFL games. But Saturday is arguably the best day of the week. You don't have to be up early the next day, all of your friends are available, it's a time to drink and watch football with no restraint on time. Besides the great slate of college football, all of your friends are itching to have fun whether you are sitting around a TV or going out to tailgate. If you ask me, every day should be Saturday.
If you're like me, you wake up every day to pregame for a Saturday game around 8:30 a.m. so you can shower and get ready for an amazing day of football with a case of Natty Light and ESPN's College Gameday. At this point in the day, the only thing on your mind is how you are going to spend a glorious autumn afternoon (especially here in Michigan, home of possibly the best autumn season in America). No Saturday is complete without listening to what Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso have to say about the day's biggest games.
That's the great thing about college football and college campuses. College football revolves around the atmosphere of a college campus. It does not matter whether you are in Knoxville, Tennessee, Oxford, Mississippi or East Lansing, Michigan. College campuses are fun, plain and simple. The atmosphere on a college campus on Saturday is a mesmerizing experience. These atmospheres bring alumni back to campus every Saturday to enjoy the campus that they once lived on. One of my favorite aspects of game days is seeing the alumni showing their spouses and kids around East Lansing on a Saturday. It is one of the most beautiful scenes of game day. And this is something that goes on at every campus!
A college campus evolves on Saturdays during the fall. There really is not a better place to be in my opinion. College football games are the most social of sporting events, and that is what makes it America's premier sporting event. College football is a metaphorical fountain of youth. The players and students are all in the prime of their lives. All the passion and emotion of these youths are fully on display both on the field and in the student section. Also, there really is not a better place to see a game than from the student section at a college campus, it is beautiful.
Fall cannot come fast enough. I look forward to the beautiful days in East Lansing spent outside during the best season of all time. The tailgating, College Gameday, and other festivities are all a huge aspect of the phenomenon of college football. Get excited.
