Being sick isn’t the best thing in the world. With so much to do and classes to work on, getting sick may as well be the end of it all good things. When the time comes though as the bug sweeps through the building a collision path for you, let’s remember to take care of ourselves. So here are a few ideas to keep the germy thoughts off your mind and bring you back towards the light of health.
1.Sleep Sleep Sleep
Almost everyone say they love to this anyway and here is your perfect excuse. Rest is essential to health, so sneak a nap in there some time during the day and go to sleep before one in the morning. I dare you.
2.Get Comfortable
Put away the fancy clothes for a week unless they make you feel better and break out the sweatpants. Have no shame and give yourself some comfort from a blanket wrapped around your shoulders in the room, to wearing your pajamas longer than necessary in the morning. You deserve the comfort of fluffy pants and warmth.
3. Marshmallows- Not Just For S’mores
Buy marshmallows (the mini ones are my favorite). It has been said that marshmallows were first used as a cure to a sore throat. So, when not a fan of non-candy cough drops, grab a few marshmallows...and maybe a few more after that.
4. Bring on the Coffee Mug
I am absolutely awful at making tea. I can already hear you all now asking how anyone can be terrible at making tea, and I am here to tell you, it is possible. Tea though is a wonderful and comforting thing especially when sick, right next to the classic chicken noodle soup and hot chocolate. Weather you make yourself a cuppa or recruit the tea connoisseur down the hall, bring on the tea even if you only hold the mug for warmth to radiate your bones all the way through to your fluffy socks.
5. A Book a Day...
Keeps the reality and hopefully sickness away. Yes, go ahead, read. For fun. Maybe I am just saying this one for myself, but lying in bed unable to concentrate on anything else but the fact that your entire face feels like a nose, seems to me like the perfect time to sit on down and enjoy a good book you’ve been putting off. So snuggle in and start on page one.
6. Bath Time
As a college student, baths are a luxury you get at home. I can see it now. Hot water, a book a good distance from its watery death, music playing off a selected Spotify playlist on my phone, bubbles, perhaps? If you have the chance when you are not feeling so hot to relax in that wonder, do it. If you are in a dorm, a warm shower can do wonders to make you feel more alive and ready to take on the day even if you don’t want to leave your bed.
7. Nourish the Body and the Soul
I know, all you want to eat now are marshmallows and tea, but remember to take care of your body and actually eat. Preferably something healthy, like an apple! But I doubt anyone will tell you not to eat that cupcake if you are up to it. You are sick after all.
8. Take a Walk
Take a walk? Outside? Yes, get some fresh air away from the building that possibly infected you with that lovely cold you are living with. Bundle up, bring a buddy if you must, and let the cool chill in in the air wake up your body in mind better than bringing an entire season of How to Get Away With Murder would.
9. Control the Remote
But also watch that entire season of the show you need to catch up on too. This is your time to relax and get better. What better way than finding out who the sorority murderer is on Scream Queens? Especially as fall comes upon us and so do exams to study for.
10. Break out the Lysol
Those cleaning supplies you have stashed away and we're pretty sure you wouldn’t need to use? It is time to break them out and wipe down the doorknobs and clean out your water bottle, because when it is time to feel better and conquer the world, no sickness is going to bring you back down. At least not for a little while.
