An Open Letter To My Church
Chuckie Brown

Dear Church Family,

Because of you, I have strength. Because of you, I have overcome. Because of you, I know what love is. Because of you, my faith is stronger than I could have ever imagined.

Just two and a half years ago, we changed churches because a member of the congregation had such an impact on the lives of my family and I. Little did I know, every person in the congregation would become such a large part of my life. You have all taught me so much about my self and my faith and all I have to say is "thank you."

Thank you for all of your love and support. When tragedy struck our family in September, it was all of you that helped us through. Your kind words and encouragement helped me through the most difficult time in my life. With all of the support, I was able to come out of an awful situation stronger and more motivated than ever.

Thank you for all of the smiles. At times I find it hard to smile, each of you makes it a bit easier to bear the pain and see the light in life. You remind me that there is good in the world, and there will always be a reason to smile.

Thank you for allowing me to make a difference in the life of others. My favorite thing about our church is the Vacation Bible School program that we host every summer. We bring out such a good group of children and being able to interact with them and feed the “snack” every night for a week makes my heart happy.

Thank you for giving me some of the best friends I could ever have. I have known many of you before making the change in churches, but because of the change, I have grown to know and love more individuals in our church more than I thought possible. One of my very best friends and I would not keep in touch unless it was for seeing each other in church, and we are reminded that although life gets busy, we can always find our friendships at home, in church, in God.

Thank you for reminding me that there is good in this world. So many of you have found a way to make a difference in other peoples lives, not just mine. Your acts of kindness are never unnoticed or unappreciated. From bringing new faces into the church community or going on mission trips and delivery items for those in need, you all are the good in the world.

Thank you for teaching me God’s word. When my faith and my strength became weak, thank you for lifting me up in the words of God. Because of you, I was able to recover my faith and allow myself to become stronger. Through all of you, God’s word and love are touching people all around the community, not just me. You allow so many people to experience Christ’s love and live the way he intended.

Love Always,

Taylor

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
