Why Christmas Is My Favorite Time Of Year

Now that Halloween is officially over, it is time to prepare for my favorite time of the year, Christmas! Yes, we still have Thanksgiving to get through, but that really doesn't matter too much to me. Yes, I'm thankful for friends, family and the life that I have been given, but it's just kind of a boring holiday, if you ask me. Plus, I really don't like turkey or anything pumpkin, so whats the point? I'm ready to start drinking hot chocolate, go gift shopping and sing "Deck the Halls."

I love shopping for presents for my friends and family, and finding the perfect gifts that I know they will absolutely love! Although, I hate spending money (only because I'm a broke college kid), but this is something that I enjoy. Making other people smile is well worth every penny. There is no better feeling in the world than giving someone the perfect gift. Last year I got my dad a new sports leather jacket with his favorite team on it. Seeing him open it and watching his eyes well with tears, was such a great feeling, knowing I had found the perfect gift for him.

Christmas music and movies are the best. I think that it is just impossible to be in a bad mood when you're watching "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" or when "Deck the Halls" starts playing on the radio. I cannot wait for the ABC Family "25 Days of Christmas" movie list to come out, having already begun to strategically plan which movies I absolutely must watch this year. Something about Christmas brings so much happiness to people. I think Buddy the elf got it right when he said, "The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!”

The food. Ham, that is all. Ham is my favorite meat, so that by itself makes Christmas the best. On top of that though, I love the mashed potatoes with gravy, the corn and the dinner rolls. Plus, being a college student means this is probably a free meal cooked by parents or other family members. It's a real home cooked meal that you didn't have to do yourself. On top of enjoying the Christmas dinner, this is a season of baking. Who doesn't love baking the millions of sweet treats that you have found on Pinterest? And even if you're not the one doing the baking, there probably is someone who is letting you eat their baked goods!

Being done with school for a month or more! I think the best part of the Christmas season is reaching the point of post-finals, where I can be out of school and stress free. Many of us get to go home, relax and not worrying about papers that are coming up or a big test in that class your'e trying to pass. It's a break from everything and it's almost like you're a child again. No real responsibilities. If you want to do nothing but watch Netflix all day, you can because you don't have anything else to get done that day.

With five weeks until finals and the mark of the end of another semester, I am starting my countdown now! I am ready for stores to put up decorations, to start my gift shopping, and to buy my favorite car air freshener scent, Christmas cookies. I'm ready for a month free of school papers and tests -- a month of joy and happiness.

Just nine weeks until Christmas, but I'm starting the celebration early!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
