As a self-proclaimed bargain-shopping-fashionista, I have come across plenty of 'hidden gems' of the clothing store world that I must share. I am the type of shopper that, for the majority of the time (I will admit, I splurge on occasion), will not buy anything if it is not significantly cheap or on sale, but always end up finding high-end and chic items during my search. I know you are all aware of the H&M's and Forever 21's of the world, but I am here to open your eyes to those boutiques and shops that are a bit harder to come across, and stores that you may overlook because you assume it is impossible to stick to your budget. Also, these sites are all places I have purchased items from, so I can gaurantee that the quality is great, and not one of those tricky sites! Here are seven of my favorite go-to places when money is tight, but the urge to quench my thirst for shopping is way too high...
1. Banana Republic (http://bananarepublic.gap.com)
It is a rarity for me to walk past Banana Republic and not see a sign that states "Extra 50 Percent Off Sale Items" (or 30 percent and 40 percent) I have found some of my favorite pieces in my closet from the Banana Republic sale section, and only stop in if it is extra percentage off. Also, if you are a card-holder, you often recieve cash rewards. One time, I had $100 in cash rewards, plus raided the sale section that was an additional 50 percent off, and walked out with $500 worth of clothing for $54. I would like to say that I have some sort of skill, but I think people just overlook BR because they assume it is outrageously expensive! Never underestimate the power of a sale, ladies and gents.
2. asos (http://www.asos.com)
Ah, the utopia for fashion enthusiasts. This website has absolutely everything you could ever be searching for. While some of their items are pricey, they have the same amount of items that are right on budget! There are so many articles of clothing on this site that it can get a tad bit frustrating, but they organized the website so that your searches are categorized by everything imaginable: blazers, cardigans, rompers, etc. I am famous for always selecting the "sort by: price low to high" button on every website, so I am able to find the best deals right away. ASOS also has an 'outlet' version of their website, where items are 70% or so off, and they have 'tall', 'plus-size', 'maternity', and 'petite' options, AND a 10 percent student discount! Not only do they have a lot of items, but unique, chic finds as well. What a perfect pair.
3. Hautelook (https://www.hautelook.com)
This site is the definition of a hidden gem. By simply signing up with your email and creating a password, you have access to amazing deals on some of the best brands. (They do not flood you with emails, I promise.) Every few days, the site updates with different brands being featured, and the sales for those brands usually only last a certain period of time. The items come straight from the stores, with nothing shady in between. It is basically an online outlet mall! I have seen Jovani dresses, Steve Madden purses and shoes, Hunter boots, Kate Spade, and so much more. There is also home decor and bedding category, and men's, children's, and beauty sections. This is a site that I swear by, and you should too!
4. ModCloth (http://www.modcloth.com)
This vintage, women's fashion, clothing, and decor store has the most unique and adorable finds. There are some very different pieces, but simple and chic ones as well -- perfect for any style! Prices are great and quality is fantastic. They also have a large selection of "special occasion" dresses, and girls that I know have bought their dresses from this site are never discouraged. Please do me a favor and check out this store's website; you will not be disappointed!
5. Kaitlyn (http://kaitlynclothing.com)
I discovered this store when I was at an outdoor mall in Los Angeles, and was sifting through the racks as I first walked in, preparing myself for outrageous pricing -- but, to my surprise, the clothes were so affordable! I went crazy in this store and I am not kidding when I say that a good percentage of my closet is filled with items from my trip to this boutique. The pieces are unique, but always on trend. It definitely has a bohemian and California feel.
6. GLIK'S (http://www.gliks.com)
If you consider yourself a prepster, this store is for you. There are so many well known, trendy brands at a fantastic price. A lot of the brands are southern styled, such as "Simply Southern," "Lauren James," and "Lily Grace." Many of the other pieces are super chic and are from brands that you may have never heard of -- but, I can promise you that you will not be able to walk into that store without buying at least three things. If I have a big pay check that I am able to spend on myself, GLIK'S is where I go!
7. Impressions (https://www.shopimpressions.com)
This online boutique is not one to miss! The style of the clothing on this site are bohemian, but girly and classic as well. There are a lot of adorable floral patterns and prints, and an "Under $40" section (which is where I usually head.) There is a flat shipping rate at $5, and loads of adorable brands. This is a site I always recommend to girls who are tired of the standard stores in the mall, and want something different. The customer service is amazing, and items are shipped super fast!
I could go on and on with this list, but these seven are some that you do not want to pass by. You do not have to have a ton of money to dress how you want; and, never forget the power of thrift stores! Wether it is Goodwill, Salvation Army, or a local thrift shop, I have never found better steals than I have while thrifting. Who cares where you get your clothing, what your style is, or how much they cost. As long as you feel beautiful (which you are) in anything you're in, that is all that matters.
I hope this list helps those of you who are bored with those standard go-to stores in your local mall, and gives you the tools to stay on budget while discovering adorable fashion!
