This Boston Celtics team is certainly better than last year; it is obvious as I watch them. The addition of Al Horford has clearly helped; offensively we are stronger due to his shooting ability and playmaking.
Also, some of the young guys have really shown improvement. Marcus Smart continues to get better with every game he plays. Terry Rozier has showed he can handle the ball and develop a shot, and Jaylen Brown in small spurts has shown that he was worth the number 3 overall pick.
Something that needs to happen with this team going forward is Jaylen needs more playing time. We kept the number 3 overall pick and chose him with it so that he could develop into a young stud. It's hard to accomplish that when you get fewer minutes than the like of Kelly Olynk and Jonas Jerebko.
Another thing that needs to happen is shooting less threes and scoring inside the paint more often. The Celtics shoot the second most 3's in the league behind the Warriors. The difference here however is the Warriors have elite shooters and the Celtics do not. Now the Celtics have actually been pretty good from behind the arc so far this season, however some nights when its just not going through the hoop we continue to chuck up threes.
It's not like the Celtics can't score in the paint, because when they try, they do so pretty easily- its just that they don't do so enough.
Also, against good competition the Celtics often seem to fall short in the 4th quarter. Whenever good teams turn up the heat in crunch time the Celtics often crack, and that needs to be fixed. The Celtics need to be able to match the intensity when it matters most when trying to win a game.
Celtics are currently the 3rd seed in the eastern conference, and will likely be in a battle for the 2nd seed for the remainder of the season.
Let the battle continue.
