Being a Cavs fan is an interesting experience. You go through rollercoaster of emotions. You remember being so happy that LeBron James was drafted. You remember the anger of him leaving and the joy of him coming back. Then there was the disappointing finals defeat and the ecstatic 2016 Championship win. So there's a been a lot of emotions. Here are just some of things you know you're a cavs fan.
1. You loved, hated and then love LeBron James.
Let's be honest, we were all hypocrites when it came to LeBron. We said we hated him and we wouldn't want him but we all wanted him to come home. When he did come home, we welcomed him with open arms. We saw him grow, as a player and a man and is one the most respectable players in the game. Since he brought home a championship, he is our hero as well.
2. Kyrie Irving is a god.
When he was drafted in 2011, we knew he was going to be good but no one could have predicted he would make that final 3 in Game 7 and help bring home the championship to Cleveland. Kyrie is the hero of many Cavs fans. We are in awe of his deadly 3 pointers when we need them and he truly is Mr. Fourth Quarter. May he break ankles wherever he goes.
3. The rest of team is just as good.
We cannot deny that this Cavs team is just as good. The team has chemistry and you can tell on and off the court. With their handshakes, you can tell these guys are good friends. It's everything you could want in a team, skills and friendship. There is no drama between these teammates. This team works like a well oiled machine. It is nice to see their handshakes before games and their antics on and off the court.
4. The Warriors blew 3-1 lead.
You will not be able to have a conversation with someone about basketball without someone bringing this up. Talking about politics? "well don't let that distract you from the fact that the Warriors blew a 3-1 lead." It gets brought up all the time, get used to it. Warrior fans may get annoyed and try to bring up the Indians but we all know it's not the same. This saying has become a meme quickly and will be brought up until the day I die.
5. Ride or Die.
Cleveland sports fans in general are one of the most loyal fans. They are ride until they die. Even when the Cleveland Browns did have a win, fans still packed the arena. When Cleveland was just name mentioned in passing, fans still went to games. When LeBron left, they stayed. You can always expect Cleveland Cavalier fans to back up their team. When the Cavs were down 3-1 deficit, everyone had written the Cavs off but not us. We believed.
6. We all pretty much looked like LeBron when we won the Championship in 2016.
You may not have been openly sobbing but on the inside you were. Don't lie. It's okay, it was an emotional finals. A sports championship for the city of Cleveland in more than 50 years is something to cry about. I saw college boys start crying and calling their dads who were crying as well. It was something that some people who thought they would never see it in their lifetime.
