A Few Things That We As Cashiers Want You To Know

There are many things cashier want to tell you but never get the chance.

Being a cashier is different then some may think, it involves more than just ringing up your items and giving you back change. There are many things I've learned about being a cashier that I never thought I'd have to do. Maybe you have an image within your mind about what a cashier truly does, maybe your right or maybe your wrong, non the less there's a few things as a cashier I would like you to know.

As a cashier, we have to count everything behind the counter; now you may of seen your local cashier at a gas station counting cigarettes, but it's much more than that. At a gas station, we count cigarettes, lottery, every piece of money that crosses the counter and overall it's our job to make sure everything is precise. For cashiers, distractions from this might even get us suspended or maybe fired.

Now, I'm not saying let us keep counting every row and wait for us to be done, but if you see a cashier finishing up counting one row of cigarettes; it takes less then 30 seconds, so please don't slam your items on the counter or be angry at us. We are simply doing our job so we can prepare everything for the next person. Instead of slamming your items or making a harsh remark, just calmly let us know you are there and I assure you, we will get you out and on your way as soon as we can.

Cashiers have to deal with disrespectful customers and some customers that take out their anger from the day on us. I know for me and many of my co-workers, what you say and do to us really can have an impact on our entire day. Your words and the way you talk to us can make our days more stressful, causing us as cashiers to look miserable and/or cause us to take longer on getting whatever it is you asked for.

All cashier ask of you is that you don't take out your anger on us and that if we make a mistake, don't disrespect us for it; we are human too, we can't always be perfect.

How the store is made or how the air machines work etc., is not our fault. We as cashiers did not make the design of the store nor do we have access to remaking the air machines or any other machine that is not working how you want it to. More of, you could actually be using the machine the wrong way; the most us as cashiers can do is hear what you have to say and suggest a different way or using another machine. Again we are not the creators of the store or have the ability to go out and fix what other customers have broken.

All we as cashiers ask, is please talk to us calmly, and be respectful on what you say; we will try to help you out the best way we can, we are not perfect; we are human.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
