A comical approach to a societal issue: "outfit repeater." It has never been safer to be labeled as an outfit repeater. Men, women, children and teenagers are banding together to once and for all end the shaming of outfit repeating.
For a long time, the concept of outfit repeating has been looked down upon by a select few, such as Kate Sanders, who declared Lizzie McGuire an outfit repeater at her middle school graduation (not cool girl).
To actual people, celebrities to be more exact, who were criticized by the press for wearing the same clothes twice, and being called out for their “Outfit repeater offenses.” Even Urban Dictionary.com has a definition for it: R.O.D., or Repeating Outfit Disorder. There are plenty of people who couldn't care less about wearing the same things over and over. Although there are also people who have become consumed with the idea that they need to keep it “fresh”—whatever that means exactly. We feel pressured as a society to keep up with our busy lives while still trying to look amazing, when in reality we only have so many items in our closet, only have so much money to spend and most importantly, we only have so many bleeps to give (sorry, had to go there).
Hence the era of positively enforced outfit repeating has thus been born. The truth is, unless you’re a celebrity, no one is going to notice if you wear that pair of jeans, with that same pair of shoes and shirt that you wore last week. And if someone does, well first, that person needs to care a little less about your outfit choices, and second, you need to be thinking: who cares! Everybody has their favorite items in their closet that make them feel good and give them the confidence they need, so why not wear those items instead of wearing something that you question buying that’s been hanging out in the back of your closet? Is it all for the sake of trying not to wear the same thing you did six days ago? It might sound a little silly now that you think about it. We all need to wear what makes us feel comfortable, happy and confident, and so do celebrities.
Kim Kardashian, and all the Kardashians really, have been accused of outfit repeating and sharing, but do they care? Nope.
Kate Middelton, Duchess of Cambridge, has been caught at numerous events reusing the same dresses, jeans and jacket combo…and she still slays.
Kanye West repeats outfits—even Kanye, guys! And if Kanye is repeating outfits we surely can. Bottom line, even celebrities with a significant amount of wealth continue to wear the same things whenever they please.
Outfit repeating is a natural part of being human. We only have so many items of clothing in our closet, and only a small portion of those items can be worn to events, in various weather conditions, and make us feel like we can conquer the world. So to all the outfit repeaters out there, this is your time. Keep wearing those recycled outfits proudly.
