Colleges have lots of buildings. Each one has its own special function and its own name that students will probably abbreviate at some point when they get in on the cool school lingo. Do you ever feel like you have different attitudes towards the different buildings around your campus? I do. Here are some of my thoughts on various buildings around Clark's campus. Don't take this seriously.
Jonas Clark
Ah, the essential Clark building. JC is so pretty on the outside and it feels so old and academic on the inside. I feel really smart and important whenever I'm in there, like "wow I'm at an institution for higher education, I must be special." I can't deal with the stairs, though. Too many stairs. Is it true that the fourth floor is haunted? I wouldn't know, that's too many stairs. There's also an old lobotomy chair in JC to add to Clark's Freudian charm. The building is old and the floor creaks when you walk but I love it so much.
Higgins University Center
Or the UC as the cool kids call it. I only care about this building because there's food there. You can also stand in a ridiculously long mail line, that's fun. Apparently, there's a third floor that nobody knows about. I swear it exists, I went there, like once.
Jefferson
Why is it so far away? How come when I walk in I'm immediately confronted with stairs? Do you ever see our lord and savior David Angel when you're walking to Jefferson and your day has instantly improved? How come the desks in Jefferson 218 and 320 are so tiny? I still need to take notes in giant lecture classes. Wait, the political science department is here. This is gonna be my home real soon when I declare my major.
Sackler
Why was my English class here last semester? It's the science building! I'm a humanities person I don't belong here, I'm afraid. What is chemistry? Why was a dangerous chemical supply closet next to my English class? The stairs are so short, though, *cough @JC get it together cough*.
Lasry
Even more confusing than Sackler, why the hell is my German class in the biology building? I don't belong here, I'm intimidated. Why do I have to cross the street to get there? Real talk, though, Lasry is such a nice building. Why aren't all the buildings like Lasry?
The Geography Building
Isn't this just part of Jefferson, why does it get its own name? My FYI discussion was here last semester and I'm still not really sure why. I've heard there's a map library here, I must find it. Also, President Angel's office is here so you're basically stepping into royal territory.
Goddard Library
Architecture snobs can fight me. I love the design of Goddard. It's so stupid looking but that's what makes it special to Clark. The inside of the library is so cozy and I love it so much. The fifth floor is an absolute gem with the little personal cubicles to get your work done and it's completely silent. Why don't I do my work there more often, it's so beautiful?
Kneller
People actually use the gym? People actually exercise? We've all gone here the first week of school thinking we're gonna exercise regularly this year and then it never happens. I've had a few dance rehearsals here and the multipurpose room above the fitness center is prime real estate for any rehearsal space. If a different club gets there before you, you're stuck with the sad, dark multipurpose room above the basketball courts, or even worse, you're stuck in the squash courts in the literal depths of hell.
Atwood
*War flashbacks to the endless sweaty hours spent here during freshman orientation*. I did get to perform on the stage in Atwood for Variant's dance show, which felt really cool. I also come here twice a week for dance rehearsal.
Estabrook
It smells like a musty attic. Why is the elevator in Estabrook the slowest thing in the entire world? I'm a security proctor in Estabrook once a week and I have to lock up the building at midnight. Yes, I get paid to do homework and stare at the door for seven hours until my inevitable death. Why are people using practice rooms at 11pm? Go to bed.
Little Center
Those chairs in the theater are going to break at some point. I only come here for Peapod Squad and Shenanigans.
Alumni & Student Engagement Center
Or "that new building across the street." The LEEP center is here so in order to make all your important college decisions like study abroad, post-graduation plans, etc., you have to try not to get run over by Worcester drivers as you cross Main Street.
Bullock
This is the only dorm I'm gonna talk about because I live here. I'm a small baby freshman and I don't have that many friends who live outside of Bullock so I haven't been to the other dorms that much. It looks like a prison but I'd take my white cinderblock walls any day of the week instead of the dark, sad bricks in the other dorms. Bullock is my home away from home and it's so cozy.
I know I didn't include every Clark building, just the ones I'm most familiar. Let me know how you feel about different buildings around campus!
