Breakfast; the most important meal of the day! Whether you’re looking to take your parents who are visiting for the weekend somewhere sensational, attempting to cure your Sunday morning hangover with some magical greasy grub, or hunting for somewhere to have a basic betch brunch with your besties, these five spots will give you exactly what you need.

Cushman Market and Café

You haven’t truly experienced Amherst if you haven’t visited Cushman Market and Café. This place is as vibrant on the inside as it is on the outside. With its live music on Sunday mornings, it’s extensive menu with more egg and bacon options than you have room to imagine (and even less room to eat), and its friendly staff and vibe, there is simply nothing not to love. Make sure to check out the market on your way out for gadgets and gizmos a-plenty.

Bread & Butter

This one’s a newbie, but a goodie. Since opening its doors in 2015, Bread & Butter has provided the foodies of Amherst with some fabulous Instagram pictures and some even more fabulous eats. They serve the best home fries you will ever taste and their selection of Eggs Benedict will drive you absolutely insane. Carnivores and vegetarians alike can enjoy its cool industrial vibe and its amazing menu.

The Lone Wolf

The Lone Wolf Café lives in the heart of the town of Amherst. This Southwestern themed breakfast and brunch restaurant offers so much more than just their Southwestern menu. (Although the Huevos Rancheros are the best you’ll ever have.) The Eggs Benedict list would make your mouth water, the walnut pancakes and crepes will make you beg for more, and their selection of latkes, cheese blintzes, and lox options would put your Jewish grandmother’s cooking to shame. The vegan menu is so fabulous that even a meat-eater could enjoy it.

Stables

Residing in Hadley, just a two or three minute drive from Amherst, Stables is the home-style, affordable country-dining restaurant of your dreams. Townies and college students alike can agree that if you’re looking for a truly satisfying meal, this is the place to come. From its granola pancakes, to its grilled molasses bread and everything in between, the Stables menu and specials offer the kind of breakfast that even your mom couldn’t whip up, making it the perfect home-away-from-home breakfast establishment.

Sylvester’s

If you’re willing to take a little drive, about ten minutes from Amherst lies the gem of Northampton: Sylvester’s. This place has all the traditional breakfast and brunch foods that your heart could desire. From its healthy fresh fruit and granola options, to its plethora of egg and omelet options, to its gigantic portions of pancakes and French toast, there is nothing, and I mean literally nothing, you cannot order here. There is basically an entire menu for the hot chocolates, which come in gigantic mugs covered in whipped cream; they warm the hands as much as they warm the soul.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
