On December 1st, 2016, I was lucky enough to attend my first Bruins game. I have been a huge hockey fan for as long as I can remember and my favorite team is the Boston Bruins. I was never able to go to a game when I was little, but now that I am in college, I decided to go with two girls from my sorority. Going to a Bruins game is an amazing experience because where they play, TD Garden, is located right in the heart of Boston. There are multiple activities you can do before going to a game, including shopping at Faneul Hall, or dinner at Quincy Market. It is also really convenient getting to TD Garden if you don't live in Boston because one part of TD Garden is actually a train station.
When we went, we drove into Boston because for us it wasn't that far and driving was just more convenient. We parked near Faneul Hall and ate dinner at Quincy Market. Quincy Market has a huge assortment of different food vendors and restaurants giving customers an assortment to choose from. We ate dinner and walked around a little bit, seeing the beautiful lights display they put on every year. Now that it's a little later in the evening, the atmosphere is getting amped up, anticipating the game to come. We started walking to TD and the closer we got, the more excited I got. The streets were flooded with black and gold, people chanting, and the energy was contagious.
Our seats were amazing. We were in row 24 in the lower section right behind the net where the Bruins shot twice. The beginning of the game started slow, but the atmosphere of being in the Garden was amazing. Many people were wearing the Bruins Christmas sweaters or jerseys of their favorite players. For that particular game, the person sitting next to us won fan of the game and we were lucky enough to be on the big screen multiple times.
The Bruins were down going into the third period and it didn't appear that they were going to come back. People were starting to leave, but we stayed wanting to watch the end of the game. With 31 seconds left, David Backes of the Bruins tied up the game. The game went into overtime and eventually a shootout. Luckily, the Bruins ended up winning in a shootout thanks to goals by Ryan Spooner and David Pastrnak. Leaving the game was a swirl of excitement. People were cheering and shouting in joy that they had won.
Going to this game was an experience I will never forget and it couldn't have been any better with the victory in a shootout. I recommend everyone convert to being a Bruins fan. They may have had a rough start but us fans are always dedicated to them 100%. Games are full of excitement from the beginning till end, and are definitely a memorable experience.
