Let the lunatics shop freely

Black Friday Shopping Guide

Oh, Black Friday. Most people either hate it or love it. Personally, it’s one of my favorite parts of the holiday season. Nothing is better than the madness to me. If you haven't been to a mall at 12-6 am on the Friday after Thanksgiving, you probably don't understand insanity. It is also is the best way to really kick off the Christmas season. By this point, every store has Christmas music playing, some type of reef on display, and a tacky sweater on sale. On top of all that, this is the best time of the entire year for sales. Particularly, the kinds of stuff college students would like. Whether you like to shop for yourself or you have someone who might be shopping for you, its hard to pick out worth the craziness on Black Friday. I’ve gone ahead and scanned the best deals for college student gifts. If you want to shop or if your family is going out for the mayhem, here is what I recommend:

Target

The Starbucks inside Target will be giving a free tall brewed coffee with a purchase of another drink. If that’s not enough to get you in the door then I’m not sure what is. However, the Black Friday deals are pretty great too. Apple Tv is 25% off which makes the item around $52, which if you binge watch Netflix as much as I do, it’s beyond a steal. Another great Apple deal is the iPads and watches. They are not much lower than other stores, but you get a gift card with your purchase ranging from $80-150. Target also has cute shoes for low prices but nothing special shown in their Black Friday ad. Target ranges on the crazy scale from mild-upright insane. Shop with caution.

Sports Authority

When it comes to black Friday I've always preferred Sports Authority over Academy. Probably because less lines, more room to shop, and they have decent savings. UnderArmour tennis shoes (men's and women's) are 25% off. In the ad, they have a coupon for $15 cash card for spending only $50. May I suggest the foosball table for $150 for your college student if you seem to be low on gift ideas. Heres the real reason to come: 25% off all Nike apparel. NORTS FOR EVERYONE THIS CHRISTMAS!

Kohl's

If you’re looking for a gift for someone in college go with something about food. We all love grub and are usually too busy to eat. Kohl's has simple kitchen items such as Panini grill, quesadilla maker, and a blender for only $9.99. Bath towels are also another great gift since most college students have only a few and use them every day, so they become worn down pretty easily. Kohl's offers them for as low as $4.99. With the weather getting colder most students don’t have enough blankets and don’t ever go buy one for themselves; pick one up for only 8.99. Kohl's will also be selling boots for $29.99 and scarves for $7.99. Overall, Kohl's is great for gifts that aren’t super personal or expensive. The madness is fairly high-key and typically include super long lines; although I visit Kohl's every Black Friday for the savings and there’s a little bit of everything.

Walmart

Ah Wallyworld, my absolute least favorite place for Black Friday shopping but is overall known as the King of this holiday. They are Sanyo Soundbar for $35, which is great gift for nearly any human. At Sam Houston we have free printing, as long as it’s in black and white. Most students just deal without color because they don’t want to pay the expensive price of a printer. This year at Walmart an HP Wireless Printer is only 19.99. If you do go to Walmart, please be careful. Every year there are stories about people being trampled because everyone goes insane.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
