Psalm 91:5
"You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day."
I can remember when I was young that every morning in the car my mom would pray out loud a prayer of protection over the ones she loved. She asked God to protect us, to put His loving arms around us; His hedge of protection around us. To keep us from all harm and evil. I remember praying along with her, and now, I pray the same prayer over the ones that I love. This verse of protection and any verse of protection help me to rest easy knowing that my God is protecting the ones I love.
Ephesians 6:10-18
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God,so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
It is always important to remember as Christians the battle we have to face every day. Others may not see it, but we are constantly being attacked and going up against evil forces. This verse helps to remind us that God has given us everything we need in order to win these battles. What an awesome God!
2 Timothy 1:7
"For the Lord did not give us the spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and of a sound mind."
This verse is one of my absolute favorites. I pray it in times that I find myself over come with anxiety and fear, or bitterness and anger. This verse reminds me what comes of God. All good things come from God — power, love and a sound mind. Anything that is not these things; anxiety, fear, bitterness, anger, etc. is not of God, but of the enemy, who only comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10) This verse reminds me who I am because of Christ.
Hebrews 11:1
"Faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see."
Now this verse is my favorite. It reminds me what it is to be Christian and to rely on my faith. Sometimes my faith fails, but this verse reminds me of what it is to truly have faith and what faith truly is. Having faith gives us confidence (because we have confidence in God) that what we hope for is going to come into being. That one day what we hope for will come into reality; even if it is something we can not yet see. We believe with all our hearts, with having faith, that our God will not fail us, and that something that we can't yet see; we will see.
Psalm 13:1-6
"How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I take counsel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?
Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death, lest my enemy say, 'I have prevailed over him,' lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.
But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me."
This verse is so important to me because it helped me through the lowest, darkest and most lonely time in my life. I related to King David. I felt the same way as him. I asked God the same question. I asked how long I would have to feel the pain that I felt inside. How long was God going to let me feel like I was being overtaken? That I had lost to my enemy? But at the end David remembers that God has not left him, and to not lose faith in God because He has dealt bountifully with him. He has trusted in God before and he can trust in Him now. God will always pull through and rescue us from our darkest times.
Psalm 34:19
"The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all."
What a sweet reminder that our God will always come rescue us! No matter what it is we are facing, there is nothing too big for our God. We serve a God that moves mountains with words; there is no situation that He can't get you out of. God has all authority.
John 15:4
"Live in me, and I will live in you. A branch cannot produce any fruit by itself. It has to stay attached to the vine. In the same way, you cannot produce fruit unless you live in me."
I love this verse because it reminds me to always stay connected with Christ. It reminds me to involve Him in every aspect of my life, and not only when times are difficult. To always acknowledge Him as Lord, and to always lean on Him and His guidance. To indulge in His word and His perfect peace. You can rest in the Lord's presence even when times are good. This verse reminds me how important it is for me to spend time and get to know God on a deeper level.
Matthew 28:20
"Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands that I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
There lot of times in life when we can feel alone, especially in hard times. But this verse is a nice reminder when you're feeling alone that you are indeed not. God is with you forever. He is with you before, during and after life. He is always present, and always waiting for us to call out to Him.
Romans 8:38-39
"I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love which Christ Jesus our Lord shows us. We can't be separated by death or life, by angels or rulers, by anything in the present or anything in the future, by forces or powers in the world above or in the world below, or by anything else in creation."
How powerful is that? That absolutely nothing can separate us from the love of God. What a sweet reminder that we are loved beyond all understanding. What and amazing God we serve!
Romans 8:28
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who are called according to his purpose."
God is always on our side and always has our back. When we get a "no" or "not now" answer from God I know it can be very frustrating and hard, but everything, everything God does is out of love for us, because He is love (1 John 4:8). God is always working things out to our good even when we feel like He's not giving us what we want and what we feel we need. But He knows better. He knows us from the inside out and knows what is best for us. He is always working for our good so we can have blessings abound.
