My Bestfriend That Became My Sorority Sister

"Laugh and I'll laugh with you. Weep and I'll weep, too. For whatever comes to assail you is there to assail me, too."

Bid Day: every sorority girl's favorite day of the year. We are reunited with our recruitment counselors and other disaffiliates. And just like Christmas Day, we welcome our new girls with presents into our chapter.

This year's Bid Day was uniquely special to me. As the new girls stormed out of the doors at Reveal, my best friend was one of them.

To say the least, I couldn't be happier.

Although I'm much too excited to have her to walk with to chapter, to have her by my side at all our events, and to finally understand my over-dramatic complaints, I'm most excited knowing what is in store for her in joining a sorority.

As a new member, there is so much excitement that lies ahead. From ceremonies, lessons of our history, and never ending surprises, being a new member is such a remarkable and momentous experience.

This organization will help you to grow. Any sorority woman can attest to the life-changing experiences that a sorority has to offer. They wouldn't have the leadership experience, knowledge, and self-fulfilling purpose that they have today if it wasn't for their chapter. I can attest that my chapter has taught me confidence and professionalism more than any college class ever could have.

Our sorority sisters will motivate you to flourish as a woman. Automatically by joining a sorority, you are joining a group of girls who tend to be more passionate about school, leadership, friendship, and being involved. These friends will push you to apply for leadership positions in your chapter, encourage you to be involved on campus, and love your excitement for the little things that others may not be as thrilled about.

You will gain a group to love and sustain you. My sorority sisters have given me a support system unlike anything that I ever could have imagined. When any sister has a big exam, speech, practical, game, or event coming up, their motivation is never ending. They will be encouraging, tell them that they're going to do amazing, and say that no matter what happens, they love and respect the courage the event requires. And if it doesn’t work out the way we hoped, they’ll be waiting with ice cream and open arms to sit with each other until everything's better.

This was the biggest reason I was excited to hear you wanted to go through recruitment. I knew that whatever chapter you fell in love with, that those girls would support you just like my sisters have.

With everything that you have gone through recently, you are the most deserving of a family here at college. Your strength inspires me in so many indescribable ways. And your ability to assess every situation and hardship with the utmost care has shaped you into one of my role models this past year.

I can't even begin to understand how you do what you do. Now, you have the backbone of our sorority to support you in everything that you do. I promise you that they will become the best friends you maybe never knew that you always wanted.

I also want to thank you for fearlessly starting this journey. I'm so grateful for the bond our friendship has created, I'm even more appreciative knowing how our relationship will grow deeper from the bond of sisterhood.

To my best friend that became my sister, welcome home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
