Second semester and I have a love hate relationship. While there are great things about being half way done with the school year, there are also plenty of reasons why I find myself daydreaming about first semester wishing to go back.
Some of the worst things about second semester are as follows:
- 1.You become so burnt out. Not only have we been working our butts off for the past four months, we are assigned papers and quizzes within the first couple weeks of school and are already checking out of our second semester classes before the month is even over.
- 2.You have to start working out/eating healthy to achieve the summer bod you have been planning on getting since last summer. Forget spring break, summer is only a few months away! Start hitting the gym and turning down pizza, you need to focus on what is approaching.
- 3.You are broke from trying to be the first to buy all the cute new spring and summer trends that are coming out on all your favorite online shopping websites.
- 4.There is always at least one day that should be a snow day, but never is so you have to trek to class in the freezing cold cursing the administration till you’re back home that night.
- 5.You realize you’re almost done with one more year of college, and that is a terrifying realization that proves you need to start thinking about the real world sooner rather than later.
While some of these things are definitely downers about what second semester entails, there are also many amazing qualities that make me thankful for the second half of the school year, such as:
- 1.Each month becoming a little bit warmer than the prior month, reminding you that shorts weather and tanning is almost arriving.
- 2.You just got back from Christmas break, so you have plenty of home cooked food to store in your fridge and cute new winter clothes to show off at the bars.
- 3.People are way more willing to go out during second semester. Don’t ask me why, but it’s true.
- 4.You’ve gotten really close with all your roommates at this point in the year and start to miss them even when you’re back home just for a weekend.
- 5.It’s your last couple months in the best city in the world before going home for summer, so you really enjoy and cherish all the best things Iowa City has to offer.
