Best Places To Eat In Maine

As many people, I prefer to go to small, local restaurants rather than a chain-based eatery. Here is a list of restaurants that I have visited, and a few that I have not. Although I have not been to a few on this list, they are all great, well-known places to eat!

  1. If you are craving a bagel...

Go to Forage. Their bagels are made in a brick oven; they have over five types of bagels and over five types of cream cheese. Mmmmmm.

Lewiston, ME

2. If you want a grilled cheese with tomato soup…

Go to Tuscan Bistro. Best grilled cheese ever. Okay, maybe not as good as yours, mom, but pretty close. Freeport, ME

3. If you want a veggie wrap…

Go to Pat’s Pizza. I always get the veggie and hummus wrap, and I never regret it. Auburn, ME

4. If you want a doughnut…

Go to either Wallingford’s or Holy Donut.

Wallingford’s donuts are covered in sugar. Auburn, ME

Holy Donut’s donuts are made out of potatoes (weird, but life-changing.) Portland, ME

5. If you are dying for Indian food…

Go to Mother India. Lewiston, ME

6. If you want a cannoli…

Go to the Italian Bakery. This place was around when my mother was a little girl, and their recipes have stayed the same ever since. Lewiston, ME

7. If you are fiasco for Gelato…

Go to Gelato Fiasco. So. Damn. Good. Brunswick, ME

8. If you want pizza…

Go to Portland Pie Company. Honestly, I initally thought this place made pie, not pizza... Westbrook, Portland, Brunswick, ME

9. If you want frozen custard…

Go to Hodgman's. Personally, I am not a fan of frozen custard, but this place is pretty popular in the summer. New Gloucester, ME

10. If you want ice cream…

Go to Fielder’s Choice. This place not only has the best ice cream, but they also have the biggest servings. Auburn, Sabattus, ME

11. If you want french fries…

Get Pier Fries. These fries are probably the most fattening, greasiest fries you’ll ever eat, but they are the epitome of a Maine summer.

Old Orchard Beach, ME

12. If you are craving a burger…

Go to Nosh. This place has the best burgers that they were even on Food Network! Portland, ME

13. If you want a lobster roll…

Go to Captain Jack’s. The lobster rolls are so giant and sooooooo good. Naples, ME

14. If you want a sandwich…

Go to ‘Wich Please. I have never been here, but I hear great things about this place! Rockland, ME

15. If you want fried seafood...

Go to the Chickadee. I have been there so many times I practically have the menu memorized. I am not a huge seafood fan, but I definitely will always have the fried clams and scallops! Lewiston, ME

16. If you want bread rolls…

Go to DaVinci's. I know people who have ordered just the bread rolls for takeout. I think that shows how good they are. Lewiston, ME

17. If you want a hot sub…

Go to the Cabin. This restaurant is always comforting on a cold winter’s day. Bath, ME

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
