It is no secret that this school year has already been one for the books. With an undefeated regular season, a new record for money raised for pediatric cancer research through DanceBlue, there is no doubt that this year will go down in history. Luckily for us, social media was there to record it all. I give you the 14 best moments captured by social media at The University of Kentucky.
1. When The Crowd in Rupp Arena Sings the National Anthem Together.
If you search YouTube you will find many examples that perfectly depict what being part of the Big Blue Nation is really about. Being in person at the arena before a Kentucky win and hearing this song is sure to leave you completely speechless.
2. #KellyToTheEllenShow.
Thousands of UK students and other members of the community rallied behind Kelly Melton, a child being treated at UK Children's Hospital as he continues his fight against Leukemia. Tweets poured in with the hashtag #KellyToTheEllenShow in an attempt to send him to the show.
3. Willie's Big Dunk.
This play, as well as many plays by the Wildcats had EVERYONE out of their seats.
4. Snowpocalypse of 2015.
Snowpocalypse or Snowmageddon. Whatever you called it, it saved you from a week of classes and sent you on daily trips to the hill in front of Willy T. As they say, dorm mattresses make perfect sleds.
5. Drake's Pitiful Air Ball.
No one will ever forget Drake's awkward air ball during Big Blue Madness, but it gave us a good laugh and gave the Vine stars an opportunity to create a perfect masterpiece with lyrics from 0 to 100. We still love you Drake, just stick to what you are good at from now on.
6. #WhereIsTrey?
Following a set of cryptic tweets by Coach Calipari, the Big Blue Nation put out an Amber Alert for one of our own and #WhereIsTrey went viral within hours. Luckily he was returned in one piece and mothers around the world were able to finally sleep again. Turns out it was all a social media prank.
7. The Moment Everyone Fell in Love with Jake Ingram.
As students opened their doors to walk to class in the 8 inches of snow on that dreaded Wednesday in February, we were all saved by the light at the end of the tunnel, Student Body President Jake Ingram, who believed we should not have class. He took to Twitter to let the student body that he had their best interests at heart.
8. Roar for 22.
It wasn't easy for anyone to hear the heartbreaking news that starting forward Alex Poythress would be unable to play this season, but when tragedy strikes, the University of Kentucky will always be there to pick up the pieces. Kentucky players wore 'Roar For 22' shirts in warmups and on the bench as well.
9. UK FUSION.
Over 1,000 UK students, staff and faculty came out to participate in a community-wide day of service, and they even got to learn some awesome dance moves.
10. Capilouto Experiments With A Photo Booth.
Who doesn't love to see the President of our University and his wife clowning around with students? The sparkly fedora was a good look.
11. UK Football Prevails.
So maybe we didn't make it to a bowl game this year, but no one can forget the excitement that surged through their body as they stormed the field after the big win against South Carolina.
12. Karl Anthony Towns Photobomb.
It takes great skill and patience to pull off a photobomb of this kind, and Karl-Anthony Towns proves that basketball is not his only talent. Sports Center's tweet quickly was all over my Twitter feed.
13. The Indecisive UK Fan.
Being shown on live TV can be cool, unless you happen to look extremely awkward. Some fans just need a lesson from the UK Cheer Squad.
14. DanceBlue raises $1,616,057.18 for Pediatric Cancer Research.
Of course, I saved the best for last. There are so many amazing things that happen at the University of Kentucky, but watching students rally together to raise $1.6 million and stand on their feet for 24 hours all for the kids definitely takes the cake.
