Why The Chicago Cubs Will Be Champs
Funny Girl

Growing up in a sports oriented family, there was one sport that I just could not get enough of and that was baseball. The way that the pitchers threw so hard, and how fun it would be to dominate the field against my friends, it was the sport for me. There are a few baseball players that I idolize: Trevor Hoffman, Randy Johnson, and Al Kaline. I was not able to see Al Kaline in his prime, but I was able to see Randy and Trevor do some work as pitchers. There are two teams that I cannot get enough of : the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago Cubs. Being in the World Series currently, I am going to give you reasons why I love the Cubs and why I believe they should win the World Series.

The Chicago Cubs were founded in 1876 first being called the Chicago White Stockings and were one of the first teams to start the National League. They have won only two World Series back in 1907 and 1908 which is the last time they have ever won. They have been to the World Series 11 times and excluding this year, they haven't been there since 1945. Yea that's right, 71 years and it was the longest drought out of the entire MLB. This is because of the "Curse of the Billy Goat," which is from a man named Billy Sianis who brought his pet goat into the game, but got kicked out because the goat smelled bad and was disturbing the fans. While leaving Wrigley Field, he shouted, "The Cubs will never win again!" This curse is the reason why they lost the series in '45, and is the reason why it took so long for them to get back. From the black cat's, to Steve Bartman, this team has seen its fair share of bad days. Even though for a long time they were known as the "Lovable Losers," things are about to change.

Come 2009, my dad takes me to first Cubs game in north side Chicago where it's called "Wrigleyville." This is the holy place for all Cubs fans and is where they play. Being able to go there and watch them play, I was instantly hooked from the bleachers out on the buildings and the ivory walls, to the sweet aroma of beer and nachos, I knew I could call this place home. The rich history of this historic franchise is something that I could get used to and even though they weren't the best team, I could still have their backs when the going gets tough. I've received a lot of grief from people for being a Cubs fan, but I knew some time soon, they were going to make a name for themselves and this year, they have.

Drafting Kris Bryant was one of the best decisions the Cubs have ever made. Having him hitting homers, to Jake Arrieta pitching absolute gems, I really do believe the Cubs will bring home the Commissioner's Trophy back to Wrigley sometime soon. The offensive threats that the Cubs have like Javier Baez who is tearing up everything within sight, Kris Bryant coming up big in clutch situations, and Anthony Rizzo the powerhouse finally getting out of his slump and hitting moonshots over the right field wall. Picking up Aroldis Chapman midseason was an amazing pick-up and could be the missing link in the chain of being champions. He is known as the "Cuban Missile," because he has the fastest pitch in all of baseball history clocking in at 106 mph. It takes less than .03 of a second to travel 60 feet so trying to get a hit off of him is like trying to hit a streak of lightning.

I really do believe that this team will win this World Series coming from a true Cubs fan and want to see it. There are some Cubs fans that are 70 years old and still have yet to see the Comissioner's Trophy come back to Wrigleyville. That time is soon I can feel it and know that I am not alone. So let's bring it back to Wrigley where it belongs! And for the goat, I am not afraid of you anymore.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
