In life, we as humans are always searching for something. Whether it be the approval of your parents, or the love of someone, or even just a cool job to make yourself feel better, we are all searching for something. Sometimes it happens naturally and is a breeze for us to reach, other times not so much. No matter the reason, we are never happy until we reach our goal. For Ted Evelyn Mosby, his life pretty much was a revolving door of happiness to pure anguish.
From 2005-2013, the CBS hit comedy "How I Met Your Mother" told the story of Ted Mosby. Mosby tells his children the story of being a single man to the man he was when he met their mother. Throughout the series, Ted and his lovable gang of misfits try to figure out adult life in New York City while tackling the biggest mystery of life: love.
We see great characters like the funny-over-the-top Marshall Erikson to sweet innocent devils like Lilly Aldren. Either way, the cast drove the show into nine long years (8 in the show) as we see Ted finally meet the love of his life in the final scene on the Farhampton train platform.
Most people I know who are religious followers of the show, try to find ways they can connect to their favorite characters. Long story short, everyone tries not to be anything like Ted.
While Ted was the center point of the entire show, everyone seems to hate on Ted. Now look, Ted is sometimes annoying with his "I thought she was the one" speeches and his fun facts of un-fun facts, but overall, how can you hate on Ted?
Now most people I know look at me like I'm crazy when I ask, "Who am I most like in the show?" Like you could only guess, I'm the Ted Mosby of my group of friends. Now that's not a terrible thing when looking at it in hindsight. Yes, I'll be the first to admit I have some quirky, stupid tendencies that drives people up a wall, but then again, who doesn't?
Ted Mosby has a lot of great qualities to him.
1. Ted is a Loyal Friend.
Throughout the series, we see all the other members of the gang fight and bicker with each other. Not Ted, though. Almost 99 percent of the time, Ted is a pretty loyal friend. He doesn't choose sides, but instead he makes everyone realize that they need to stop the fighting and just be friends.
Ted also feels pain for all of his friends. From when Lily left Marshall to go to San Francisco, or when Robin found out she could never have children, Ted was always there for them. Why wouldn't you want a friend like this in you life?
2. He's a Risk Taker.
How many of you would get drunk and get a butterfly tattoo on your lower back? How many of you would leap from a building just to see how nice a deck was? How many of you would risk your career for your friends? Ted Mosby has done all of those things. Sure he may have been drunk when he did some of them, but he still did them. Ted is someone who is not afraid to try something new and because of that, he keeps life interesting for his friends.
3. He can turn a no into a yes.
While Ted isn't the definition of a "ladies man," he does know how to turn a no into a yes. When Stella told Ted she had a daughter, she didn't exactly refuse his invitation to date. Ted literally went back and looked at the facts just to prove she didn't say no.
When he realizes that, he once again asks her out on a "two-minute date" to which she replies, yes. While this is something most guys wouldn't dare consider doing, Ted didn't hesitate to try to win her over. Major points to Smosby one-upping everyone.
4. He Goes Above and Beyond.
From the two-minute date to traveling across the country to find a damn locket, Ted goes above and beyond for the ones he loves. Ted never half-asses anything, it's either full speed or nothing at all. Hell, he made Robin a rock & roll laser show without even knowing why she was sad in the first place. Ted just does things to make people happy, and who wouldn't love to have someone in their life who makes them happy?
5. He's Been Through Some Things
Ted's been fired multiple times, lost friends, got left at the altar, had a movie made based off of his life where he's the bad guy and watched the girl he loved for eight years marry his best friend.
Plain and simple, he has been through some things that make him wise. Ted has more life experiences to tell people than anyone else in that show combined. He has been through hell and high-water and turned out fine on the other end. You should love him because the advice he gives is probably something you need.
6. He Tells Terrible Jokes
Which makes you seem funnier than you really are. So thank him for being a dad when it comes to telling jokes.
7. He Gives Everyone a Chance
Ted Mosby gets around. In a good way, though, and not in the way many people think of that word. Ted had 64 girls (don't ask how I know that number) come in and out of his life before he met the one. That means Ted is willing to give anyone a shot at being the one he marries one day.
While that is not always a good thing, it shows how open-minded Ted really is when trying to find someone. It didn't matter to Ted if she was pretty, or how her voice sounded, Ted gave them a shot, and for that applaud him.
8. He has Big Dreams and Won't Let Anyone Stop Them
Ted always had one major dream in his career, to see one of his buildings as part of the New York skyline. Sure it only took him 33 years to accomplish that dream, but he still did it. Even when he was dating Zoey and she was personally one of his better relationships, he eventually ended things with her so he could live his dream. This just shows how Ted won't let anyone stand in the way of his success. Who wouldn't want someone like that in their life?
9. Ted Speaks from the Heart
Sometimes it may hurt to hear the truth, but Ted Mosby is probably at his best when he does. From his "45 days" speech to admitting to Stella he's tired of waiting for the one, Ted is brutally honest about his life. Still, he means well in everything he says and sometimes the brutal truth is better than a terrible lie.Ted Mosby speaks the truth and that is something everyone needs in their life.
10. Ted Never Gives Up
Even with that terrible excuse for an ending, Ted Mosby never gives up on anything. From achieving his life-long dream to being the best wedding planner on the planet, to waiting for the one come along, Ted never gives up.
Sure we see Ted look into his future, and it looks bleak, but in reality he hangs on until the end. That is why we feel for Ted. No one has been through the journey like Ted has. Finally, when we see Tracy on the platform, we are so happy for him because after holding on forever, he finally has won.
So if you're the Ted Mosby of your friends, be proud of being a geeky, over-the-top, Cleveland (or whatever sports team) loving, annoying, accurate self. Because even if the world isn't going your way, things are coming, as fast as they can.
