There’s nothing wrong with being a quiet person. It’s actually intriguing, or at least I think it is. I personally have struggled with being shy and trying to carry on a conversation. Nonetheless, my mind has a voice of its own, a very loud one. I’m always thinking. Sometimes I think about different things at the same time; it’s like I’m having a conversation with my own brain.
It’s like when I’m in the car with someone, and I’m not talking the entire time. I usually find myself watching the faces of people in their cars passing by, or staring at the trees up ahead and wondering what’s over them. These questions create stories in my mind that I just continue writing mentally until I realize it’s not actually part of reality. This sounds silly, I’m actually laughing to myself right now as I write this, but I’m just a naturally curious person.
I feel like being shy has a socially negative connotation. I know when I was in grade school people used to think I didn’t know anything because I never talked in class, yet I maintained an A average almost every year. I’m always listening to everything and everyone around me, I just process these noises more quietly.
I’m actually quite glad I’m not the kind of person who talks nonstop all the time because if I did, I would talk on forever. I’m not just a brick in the wall because I don’t say much at times; I actually have a voice, but I just use it differently.
Being a quiet person has its perks. You can eavesdrop on someone’s conversation without them noticing you because you’re not talking enough for them to know that you’re even there.
Also, when you do talk, people are actually interested in what you have to say. I know I get tired of hearing the same people talk all the time, so it’s interesting when someone who’s normally quiet speaks up.
Being shy doesn’t make someone an idiot or a scaredy-cat, it just makes them all the more fascinating and complex. Their mind is always at work, and they think more deeply than those who just blabber whatever comes to mind without any thought. It just goes to show the different ways people think and communicate. Don’t judge someone because you think they’re afraid to talk because that’s not always the case. Being shy is OK.
