Imagine looking through your sent snaps, your call list and texts and seeing that one friend that is so much like you, hasn't responded. It's been almost 24 hours and you didn't even notice. The fear, the pain, the anxiety that washes over you is immediate. You can't help the tears that come. You pray that they are okay because, in the end it always turns out fine. But what if this is the time it doesn't?
Mental health is so important and (thank god) has now started being talked about more in society. I feel like in this day and age, I personally feel comfortable talking about my mental health with my friends. The ironic thing is that they usually feel some type of way as well.
The thing that sucks about depression, anxiety or a range of different disorders is that once you start feeling better, you don't talk about your problems as much because you don't really have any and your friends who are still struggling don't feel like they can talk to you about their problems anymore because they don't want to burden you.
If you are the one friend who is struggling, do not be scared to reach out to your friends... no matter what. You don't bring them down, or stress them out, or anything that your head might come up with. Talking to your friends about how you're feeling and what you're going through actually helps them too. It helps them know where you're at, how you're feeling and let's them know to check in on you more because they've done the same for you.
Please, if you're the friend that's doing good right now...just check in. you might have a lot of things going on in your day but almost all of us have our cellphones on us. It takes less than a minute for a simple text.
They were there for you, be there for them.
If you're ever feeling alone and feel like no one will listen or you don't feel comfortable talking to your friends or family, there is help.
Suicide Hotline: 1-800-273-8255
SAMHSA hotline: 1-800-662-4357
Or text "hello" to 741741 to text someone to talk to you through any mental problems you have.
I hope and pray you'll never have to use those numbers, but a lot of people have been there before and you're not alone.
