Not Having To Birth Children, And 7 Other Reasons Why Being A Godmother Is The Best
Kathryn Hall

Being a godmother is one of the biggest honors anyone could receive. It means that you are trusted to be an influential part of someone's life, starting from their childhood. It can seem overwhelming at first, but really, it's a lot of fun times and just includes being on-call at all times for your godchild. You have so much love for them and can't wait to see them grow up, all while wanting them to stay little forever.

Technically, you are supposed to be "parent-ish" but you also get to be super fun and experience tons of new things with them. I remember the day I got asked to be a godmother, and I was just so honored to even be asked. It really is one of the best titles I will ever have, and I can't wait to learn and grow along with my godchild.

1. You get to spoil them

money

It's easy to spoil your godchild with toys and candy when you won't be the one having to deal with their sugar high later (sorry!), but you also get to spoil them with even more love and affection than they get from everyone else in their lives. It's a win-win situation for everyone involved.

2. You don’t have to be a parent

Obviously, there are responsibilities that come with being a godparent, but you get a little trial run of being a parent instead of taking on all the responsibilities at once. We definitely have it easy.

3. You get to be an influential part of someone’s life

hugs

Whether you are helping them with their first steps or first crush, you will always listen to them. You want them to know that they can come to you with anything and you will always help them out. You're like an older built-in best friend.

4. You learn a lot

oh

You learn a lot about what it takes to be a parent (on a smaller scale of course) and you learn how to handle different situations that come with having a child in your life.

5. You can show off your godchild at any time

look

Just like parents, you are super proud of your godchild and want to show pictures to anyone and everyone. Whether their new school pictures are in, or you want to impress everyone with a video of your godchild saying their ABCs, you are always willing to show them off.

6. You get a cool title

cool

Sure, being related to the coolest kid ever rocks, but being able to say that you are their godparent really makes you sound cool.

7. You get to be the “cool aunt, cousin, etc.”

Everyone has a cool relative that they love hanging out with and adventuring with. You get to be that person, and it's an honor you take very seriously. You want to be the coolest godparent of them all.

8. You are with them every step of the way

Watching someone grow up is such an amazing experience. You get to see them in all stages of life, good or bad, and you get to be with them through it all.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
