I'll be honest and start this article by saying that I wasn't a true Cubs fan until this year. Growing up, when people would ask if I was a Cubs or Sox fan I would say Cubs because that is what my dad is. But I had never kept up with the games or really showed any interest in the sport at all. It wasn't until this year, that I actually started watching the games. I know some people might call me a bandwagon fan because I didn't truly support the Cubs until this year and that's okay. But, it wasn't about watching the team because they were winning games and made it to the World Series. For me, it was about wanting to keep up with the Cubs fans and join in on their excitement. I live with the biggest Cubs fan I know (shout out to my lovely friend and roommate Kristi Guzman). Every game day, Kristi would be decked out in Cubs blue from head to toe, sitting on the couch with her Cubs blanket, and our apartment fish Rizzo (yes he is named after Anthony Rizzo) in his tank on the table next to her. I've never seen someone so dedicated to being a Cubs fan and I knew that for her, it was about so much more than just baseball. Being a Cubs fan is about dedication, working hard, and never giving up hope because no matter what happens in a game, there is always tomorrow. That is what I truly love about the Cubs, they have the best fans in the world and their energy is contagious. I mean they waited 108 years to win the World Series for goodness sakes! They deserve a little celebration for their unwavering dedication to the Cubbies!
Even though I have never been a true Cubs fan until this year, I want to make it clear that the real reason I joined the Cubs fan club was because of the fans. Of course I love the team and think it is amazing that they won the World Series, but it's about so much more than that. It's about the fans that have been in it from the very beginning. It's about every time I heard "Go Cubs Go" on my college campus every time they won a game and seeing big blue and white W flags hanging out of people's windows the next morning. It's about seeing them win and being so thrilled to text my dad who has been a Cubs fan since he was a kid. I'm just so thrilled for all the Cubs fans (5 million of them were at the parade in Chicago) because I can't think of any other team that deserved to win this year more than the Cubs! It's been so cool to see pictures of dedicated fans celebrating the Cubs big win and support from other Chicago teams like the Blackhawks. In my opinion, how can you not be a Cubs fan? They have the most energized and loyal fans I can think of! So let them celebrate and have their bragging rights! They've waited a long time for this!
