Why can't we be happy in our own skin? I don't know about you, but if i don't go for a run, or hit the gym at least once a day... then I feel terrible about myself. Not because I'm severely overweight or because I think that I am the ugliest thing that walks this planet but because society teaches us that if you have any bit of cellulite or just a little bit of body fat... then it's not okay and you should change yourself.
What about confidence? We are taught to always be confident in your own body and to be who you want to be. But we are constantly reading magazines and watching the television shows that show us how the Kardashian's look or how this celebrity just lost 10 pounds. But why do we care? Unfortunately, TV and the tabloids force us to look up to these super stars for inspiration on clothing, makeup and again, how your body should look.
"You're too skinny, you should eat more." "You're super thick." "I have stretch marks." There are several more things that we have heard or said about ourselves and our bodies. But for what?We see these super skinny girls with six packs... stand up, but the moment she sits down... she reveals where her skin folds, and then... she's fat. I'm sorry, but if you have any skin that "folds" when you sit... who gives a flying crap? Why can't we be happy and confident in our own bodies?
I hate how I feel like I shouldn't eat that extra piece of pizza or go get ice cream with my friends because I fear the weight that I could put on. It's not even guaranteed. More and more children, teens, even adults are starving themselves and trying to be something they're not just because there is a painted picture that shows what we all should look like. There is only one body type in the celebrity world. Super tall and super skinny. But... too bad we all can't look like this.
If you know me, then you know how short I am. I am not even 5-foot yet. So, for me, I have to be extra careful because my weight shows more than on someone who is taller. It's not fair. But I can't change it, and quite frankly, I like my height. It's a unique feature and it's part of who I am. Some don't like being short, some don't like being tall. But again... why?
I am a firm believer that everyone should be happy in their own skin and be confident with who they are. Be who you want to be and don't change for anyone. Seeing Kim Kardashian on TV/Snapchat/Instagram and her big booty, not everyone is going to have a butt like hers. It just doesn't happen. Seeing Hilary Duff, who had a child, and wanting a body like hers... it just doesn't happen. So be happy with yourself and stop comparing yourself to others around you. Especially those who are famous and get work done... that's just not fair.
