It's OK to screw up.

College is a strange time for all of us. It's the weird in-between of being a teenager and realizing that you're officially a full-fledged adult who has to start paying their own bills. There are a lot of things you will likely do in college that will make you question whether or not you're ready for the real world. These are things that you've heard are "bad" your entire life and now you realize that you've done them all. Here are a few things that most college aged kids have done that are totally OK, despite seeming like a problem.

Screwed up.

Because this is so natural, it hurts. College is a time to test limits with your abilities, to realize what you do and don't like and to make choices for yourself. It's a time to fall flat on your face and get back up.

Failed.

This usually goes hand-in-hand with "screwed up." There will be nights that you should've spent studying for an exam when you choose to hang out with friends instead, and the grade that is received reflects that decision.

Met People With Different Opinions.

You actually really need to do this. How can you form your own opinion about something if you don't know what other people believe? How can you stand on decisions you've made without seeing it from all points of view?

Cried.

It's OK to cry. Regardless of how old you are. Some nights, you just need to sit down and cry and let the fact that you're not a real adult come crashing over you. Because that's totally normal.

Had zero dollars in their bank account.

How are you going to appreciate having money to spend on things one day if you haven't ever lived off Ramen and cereal for months on end? That terrifying moment when you check your bank account and it's just change, that will help you learn to budget money quicker than any accounting class ever could.

Lied.

But not on purpose, because at one point you really did want to be a Marine Biologist. In fact, that was your major once upon a time. You didn't realize that you were going to realize that your true passion was Literature.

I guess what I'm saying is this... college is college. It's not a "Get Out Of Jail Free" card, and it's certainly not an excuse to act like an idiot. But it's a time for personal growth and a time to realize who you are going to be for the rest of your life. Sometimes you've got to experience something that you consider to be "bad" in order to realize the good.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
