I Want To Backpack In Asia

I had no idea how beautiful there places are.

Ever since I got to Europe, my wanderlust has accelerated tenfold. With graduation a mere two years away at this point and Masters coming quickly after that and then following that, well... the rest of my life.

I want to do something to commemorate the younger days.

Something that screams adventure and allows the wildness of my heart to finally come out.

I want to go backpacking across Asia.

Originally, I was thinking I would do the eastern part of Europe because things are a little bit cheaper and not as touristy but there's a part of me that really want to experience Thailand. While talking with a flatmate of mine, he made a good point that if I was going to go to Thailand, I might as well visit Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam while I'm there, too. So that's what I've decided to do.

The first place I want to go to would be Thailand since that's where this whole idea started. My plan right now is to take a flight straight from Charleston and into Bangkok, Thailand. This would be where most of the cost would come from, being anywhere from $800-$1,200 for the flight.I would literally be traveling there for approximately 36 hours or more but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do I guess.

In Bangkok, there are some really cool things to see. Here are a few of them:

This is Bangkok's Royal Grand Palace. Pretty, right?

This is a 150-ft Buddha statue in the temple of Wat Poh. Yes please. I feel that would be such a cool and spiritual place.

After Thailand, I want to hop over to Laos, because there are some even cooler places there.

Laos is covered in caves. This is a lagoon right outside of the came Tham Pho Kham in Vang Vieng. How beautiful is that?

This place is known as the Four Thousand Islands. You can do a boat tour down the river and there's always a chance to spot the rare freshwater dolphins (which I didn't know were even a thing, and they don't look like saltwater dolphins BTW).

After Laos, I guess the most practical next move would be Vietnam. It's not really somewhere I ever thought I would end up going, but I see no reason why not, so.

I feel like this is one of the most photographed parts of Vietnam; I've seen photos so many times. I can just imagine taking a boat cruise around this beautiful place.

This in Sapa, Vietnam. I honestly couldn't imagine a better place to do some hiking. It would be so so cool to see the rice fields, too.

I've really grown a passion for traveling. Have you been to any of these places or been to anywhere else that you think I might enjoy and should consider going for my next excursion?

Keep calm and wander on, my friends.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
