Are You In Love?

I asked friends and family if they have ever been in love and how they knew and this what they said.

Back in December, I asked a few of my friends and family members how they knew they were in love. This sparked my interest, and I became interested in if my other family members and friends had ever been in love and if so, how did they know. I think this is an interesting question because everyone seems to think of being in love in completely different ways. Because of this, here is how some of the people in my life knew they were in love:

1. Corie-Friend From School

Have you ever been in love? Yes.

How did you know? Because he's my best friend. He builds me up more than I ever thought was possible. He's always there and supports me 24/7. I'm in awe by him and the unconditional love he shows me. I would do anything for him and I know he would do the same for me.

2. Katie-Friend From School

Have you ever been in love? Yes.

How did you know? The things that drive me crazy in everyone else, I love in that person. Their annoying habits don't bother me, and you can be loyal and honest and trust you will get the same in return.

3. Seth-Friend From School

Have you ever been in love? No.

What do you think it would feel like? Having a connection that's reliable.

4. Kevin-Family

Have you ever been in love? Yes.

How did you know? As soon as I saw her.

5. Anitra-Family

Have you ever been in love? Yes.

How did you know? We started as friends and I realized how amazing he was.

6. Noelle-Friend From School

Have you ever been in love? No.

What do you think it would feel like? Everything I don't like about myself, or that people don't like, that they would except that it's the way I am and vice versa. I would hope that even when we aren't doing anything, just being around one another, that I would still want his company more than anyone else. That in a crowd of people, he'd be the one I choose.

7. Hannah-Friend From School

Have you ever been in love? Yes, I'm very much so in love.

How did you know? I knew because he was the first person I thought of in the morning and the last person I thought of at night, and still is. Anytime something happens, he is the first person I want to tell. I can't say his name without smiling and have felt that way since our first date. I have loved him since that day, possibly before. I'd never met a person so willing to be exactly who they are and not care what anyone thought. The day I knew for sure that he was the man I needed to marry was a couple of years in. He was driving me home from his house and we saw a dog laying in the middle of the street that had been hit by a car. He immediately stopped and turned on his hazards and goes to the dog. I'm obviously emotional, but he stayed calm and told me what I needed to do. He sat there and petted the dog, just talking to it, to try and keep it calm because we really didn't know if the dog would make it. We got Pepper, the dog's name, loaded into the car and he asked me to drive, so he could sit in the back with Pepper. The whole way to the hospital he talked to the dog, telling it to hold on and also managed to keep me calm enough to drive. In that moment, I saw how caring and genuine he really was, and knew I needed him to keep me calm and care for me that way for the rest of my life.

8. Aristeo-Friend From School

Have you ever been in love? No.

What do you think it would feel like? I'm guessing "in love" would be a commitment to someone else. I've been so independent and fostered in a sense of maturity that falling in love hasn't happened yet. I guess it's going to hit me in the gut. Almost like what John Mayer talks about when he sings "Stop This Train."

9. Yvonne-Family

Have you ever been in love? Yes.

How did you know? For sure knew it was love when he laughed at all my dumb jokes, listened to my stories, and remembers them, the thoughtfulness in his eyes when I talk, being able to always be myself, and being excited to share stories with him about my day, and a million other things that made me know he was the one. Oh, yeah, and after the first time he saw me without make-up after a workout, we still had another date!

10. Adrian-Family

Have you ever been in love? Yes.

How did you know? I knew when her smile was more important than mine. I knew when I realized sacrifices would be made for someone else, and I was okay with that.

After hearing how others feel when they are in love, I think it's hard to say that being in love is one specific feeling. I hate this answer, but I guess you know when you know.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
