Answering My 'Gilmore Girls' Revival Questions From 8 Months Before It Aired

When I first heard about the "Gilmore Girls" revival, I was so excited. "Gilmore Girls" is my absolute favorite show but just like many fans, the last season left me wanting more. After our pleas, the creator of the show, Amy Sherman-Palladino, blessed us with the news that there would be 4 revival episodes. The episodes were released on Netflix on November 25 at 3 a.m. EST/ 12 a.m. PST. Being that I live on the east coast, I woke up at 3 am with my mom and we prepared for our 6-hour journey through Stars Hollow reuniting with our favorite characters. There were four, 90-minute episodes which were based off of the seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall.

Back in March, I wrote an article titled “What I Hope to See In The Gilmore Girls Reunion Episodes” and now that I have watched, cried, screamed, laughed, and everything else one can do while watching Gilmore Girls, I will now answer my own questions that I had about the revival.

1. "Did Sookie and Jackson have a boy or a girl?"

Yeah, we don’t find out. Melissa McCarthy, who plays Sookie St. James, only appeared in the last episode for about 10 minutes and the only child mentioned was her daughter, Martha, whom we already knew about since season 5. Sigh.

2. "Did Luke and Lorelai get married?"

When the revival episodes started, they weren’t married but were dating for 9 years. I felt like all hope was lost of seeing them as a married couple until the last episode when they actually ended up getting married. I sobbed. P.S.: Notice the music when you watch the marriage scene, it's the same music they danced to at Liz's wedding and we first saw the romance beginning to blossom.

3. "Who is Rory with?"

OK, so she was with a guy named Paul. They apparently have been dating for two years but everyone, including Rory, kept forgetting about his existence. Whenever he came up, people would ask “who?” Lorelai kept calling him Pete. It was a mess. And she was in the process of “getting back” with Logan but plot twist, he is engaged to a French woman. This doesn't stop Rory from sleeping with Logan, though. She also has a one-night stand with a guy dressed as a Wookie. All these encounters make what she has to say at the end of the revival a tad more interesting.

4. "How are they going to portray Richard’s absence?"

His character died 4 months before the first episode of the revivals time frame. Richard had a major heart attack and passed in the ICU. Lorelai mentioned a few times how sudden and unexpected it was. The whole revival you could just feel his absence in the house especially when they went into his study or looking at the wall-sized portrait of him hanging in the house. Not to mention, Rory rips all of our hearts to pieces when she has some alone time in the house and looks into the empty rooms and flashbacks with Richard are shown from the earlier seasons. Oh and Lorelai also rips our hearts out, stomps on them, and runs them over with a truck when she calls her mom, crying, sharing her favorite memory with her dad. Once again, I sobbed.

5. "Did Sherry come back from France?"

Sherry is not mentioned at all. Gigi is not even in the revival. Christopher appears at the end when Rory goes to visit him at work. They talk about his new girlfriend who, by the sounds of it, he has been with for a while and Rory asks him a question that foreshadows the last line of the show.

6. "Did Kirk and Lulu get married?"

There was actually only one Lulu and Kirk interaction. Lulu was only in one scene and Kirk was actually one of the main people in the revival. Everything about Kirk’s character in the revival though had nothing to do with Lulu. They’re still together though so that warms my heart.

7. "What is Paris and Doyle’s relationship status?"

Divorced. They got married. They had two kids, who love their nanny more than their parents (sound a little familiar?) I was pretty bummed to hear they weren’t together anymore because they are meant to be. But Paris mentions that she "missed her time of the month," the curiosity is real.

8. "Is April less annoying?"

Well, just like most of the characters, she wasn’t in it much. She was only in one scene and she’s a 22-year-old MIT student who smoked pot once and lied about talking to a boy to Luke and Lorelai. She admits all this to Rory when she has an anxiety attack in her room. Oh, April.

9. "Where is Mr. Kim?"

He actually appears in the revival!! For a quick second and it was the most random thing. Lane literally goes, “Oh, look, my dad is here!” An elderly Korean man waves and that’s it. No storyline as to where he has been. It’s almost Amy’s way of shutting us up from the constant questioning of where he is but newsflash, the revival didn’t answer that.

The revival overall was really good. It is getting a lot of mixed reviews, most of which are positive. But one thing is for sure, they need to do a season 2 or a spin off with Rory because the last line of the entire revival was the biggest cliffhanger and us Gilmore fans cannot simply go on without answers. I’ve spoiled a lot for you but I won’t spoil the last line. Trust me, you’ll want to hear it for yourself.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
