We go through recruitment as “PNM’s” (Potential New Members), having not a clue what to expect. It’s quite a nerve-wrecking process and maybe not for everyone; however, everyone learns more about themselves through it, and hopefully ends up in a place they feel most comfortable. Every sorority is so unique in it’s own way and it’s amazing to see girls truly happy in the house to which they belong.
After joining, a freshman is usually given what we call a “big”— which is really just a big sister figure, role model, and a best friend. To this day, I can honestly say I will forever be grateful for my big walking into my life. So biggie, this one is for you.
To my big,
Not sure where to begin other than to say: thank you. Thank you for being the amazing, warm-hearted, loving, and kindest person I know. The first day I met you, I knew I we had clicked and it felt like you had been one of my close friends for years. I want to thank you for being you and the incredible person and role model you are to me. Freshman year is extremely difficult and was easily one of the toughest adjustments for me. The course loads are excessive, stressful, and quite overwhelming. However, you were always there for me telling me it was going to be okay, giving me the most positive energy and guidance one could ask for. On those days it was so easy to just want to isolate myself, however you made me do the opposite. You sat with me while I studied hours for bio, took me on a study break, reinforced the fact that everything would be ok, and most of all, you just listened. You listened to me vent about not only school, but personal problems, friends, and anything between with no judgment at all. You have been nothing but supportive, gracious, and understanding.
I want to also thank you as well for always being a text or call away. Whether it entails me frantically stressing over some conflicting date with chapters, events, or even just school, your positivity and sympathy never once failed to make me smile. You are always putting others before yourself, making sure the ones around you are okay no matter the circumstance.
After this past year, I know you will always be there for me no matter what. Continuing to be the caring and supportive person I know you to be. I’m so excited for the following years to come; where we become even closer, and make more memories together. From enjoying long coffee dates, sushi, Qdoba, Dunkin Donuts, or just casually roaming around Target late at night, we always have the best times together—which is all the reason I look forward to the near future.
Lastly, I just want to thank you for being one of the greatest role models to me. You are someone I aspire to be. Beautiful inside and out. Thank you again for being you, and the admirable person you are.
With all my love,
Your little.
