An Open Letter To The Graduating Seniors In My Sorority
Theta Pepperdine

Dear seniors,

From meeting you all on the Rush floor and celebrating with you at formals, to spending more time together outside of classes and getting to know you all as sisters, each of you has positively impacted my freshman year of college. Each of you has taught me something unique and I am so grateful for the friendships I have created with you all this year.

Flashback to Bid Night when I was bombarded with screaming "Thetas" as my pledge class ran anxiously to you all. Many hugs were given, many Insta-worthy pictures were taken, and many lessons on how to properly “kite” were assessed. That night was full of an irrevocable, inclusive energy that was absolutely indescribable and it was all because of you seniors, as well as the other active members, that made my experience of joining Theta one of the best ones ever.

Throwback to the day after I pledged when I woke up with nearly 100 Instagram follower and Facebook friend requests and was overwhelmed with the excitement of joining a sorority where I would get to know more upperclassmen. Little did I know that I was about to be spoiled endlessly as a new member. From driving me to the Sprinkles ATM before dance rehearsals to having deep conversations about life, you seniors have truly been there for me.

You taught me the history of Theta and the importance of our ritual. You showed me what sisterhood really means and how to embody it. You cheered me on in my proudest moments and listened to me on my rough days. You’ve lead our entire chapter and demonstrated what it is to be a leading woman. But the most astounding part of it all is that you continue to do so without even realizing just how great of an impact you have had on Theta.

100% retention rate?! I’d say that’s pretty incredible. Dancing to victory while raising the most money out of any chapter on campus for a great cause?! Wow. Continuing to be the best group of women I know?! That’s priceless. Each of you are role models not only to me, but to everyone else in the chapter and I want to thank you for that. Thank you for taking us on dates, buying us food, driving us places, helping us study, and cherishing the rest of your senior year with us, sisters. Thank you for being you. I cannot wait to watch you all receive your diplomas while wearing your letters; something I look forward to do in a couple of years, all because of you.

I wish each of you the best of luck in this last month of college and in the years to come. And just like you have been there for me, know that I will always be there for you.

Sincerely,

Katie

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
