I Will Miss You Detroit Tigers

I Will Miss You Detroit Tigers
Dave Sizer

I don't know football, or hockey, or basketball, but I do know baseball.

The Detroit Tigers, my boys, my team.

Anyone who personally understands me knows that I obsess over my Tigers both during the regular season and the off-season.

It was a rough year for my boys. And it wasn't that you were bad; the Orioles, Indians, and Blue Jays simply had a better year than you did. But that doesn't give me a reason to stop watching you.

I don't follow you because of the logo on the front of your jersey, I follow you because of who you are. The team would not be the same without Miggy, Iglesias, Justin, Kinsler, McCannon, J.D., Castellanos (my favorite) and all of the other players on the 40-man roster.

Castellanos, you started out as a rookie with a goofy grin on your face and have become a solid third baseman. Cabrera, the thought scares me that you may not be a Detroit Tiger anymore. You have hit some incredible games, accomplished amazing feats, and are continuing to pursue your dreams of baseball. The things you can do with a bat and glove are incredible. My favorite memory of you was when you and Jose Altuve stood on first base and un-tucked each others' shirts. I also miss seeing your daily interactions with Prince Fielder. On that note, Fielder, when you grabbed some nachos from the guy in the stands, it was hilarious and memorable to say the least. I also want to give a shout out to Fox Detroit commentators, Mario and Rod. I'm always annoyed when the game is on a different channel because I know it means I won't hear your commentary. Verlander, there is no denying that you are one of the greatest baseball pitchers of all time and this year you proved to all of the naysayers that you are still worthy of being a Detroit Tigers pitcher.

Finally, I'm writing this because I know once the next season starts most of you will not be wearing a Tiger uniform anymore. I just wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed watching all of you play. To be honest, baseball has not always been a life-long love of mine. It was about seven years ago that I first started watching your games. So, unfortunately, I missed Magglio's golden years, Miggy's early years, and the 2006 World Series team. The team has changed quite a bit since I started watching. Granderson, Inge, Scherzer, Porcello, Fielder, Price, Infante, and Hunter have either retired or gone on to play for different teams.

But my message to you: You may come and you may go but you will always be a Tiger, no matter how long you wear the jersey.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
