Dear Naps,
I’m going to start off by saying I’m sorry. I’m sorry I never appreciated you when I was a child, which was stupid of me. From the age of two, until kindergarten, you were my nemesis. I guess I just started having FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) at an early age because I would rather be with my friends than get some beauty sleep. Napping would've made me less cranky and stubborn, but it’s too late to change that now.
Even when I went to elementary school, I underestimated your powers. I didn’t know that by napping just a little bit every day, I could boost my immune system. Maybe if I had taken advantage of you when I had the time, I wouldn’t have gotten strep throat five times during second grade. The truth is, during elementary school, I would try to take naps, but it was no use. I tried everything from learning the alphabet backwards to counting sheep, and nothing worked. On the bright side, I can say the alphabet backwards better than anyone I know! “Z, Y, X, W, V, U, T...”
Don’t worry though, I learned my lesson when I got to middle school. With a heavier workload (LOL two hours of homework felt like a lot back then, okay?), starting a social life, and sports, there wasn’t any time for napping. Taking naps started to become a thing of the past, but I didn’t know how serious my nap deprivation was going to become.
I know I haven’t admitted this until now, but I really missed you in high school. Normally, I would get to high school at 7:00 a.m., and stay until 7:00 p.m., or even later. From a full day of school, to practice, to games and social events on the weekend, there was no time to fit in naps. Any extra time I had was dedicated to participating in any and every club or team I could be a part of. Again, I’m sorry I didn’t make time for you at this point in my life.
Fortunately, we were able to rekindle our relationship in college. Only having three hours of classes a day gives me plenty of time to take a nap every day. Yes, there’s more going on in my life, but I’m dedicated to making you a priority now. When I’m sick, stressed, or feel a little down, you never fail to make me feel better. I know, “I can sleep when I’m dead," but a little cat nap here and there won’t hurt!Love,
Brianna
