An Open Letter to My Favorite Singer

If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be who I am today.

An Open Letter to My Favorite Singer

Dear Rob Thomas,

You don't personally know me, but I know you. Your music keeps me going, and for that I'm forever grateful. If it wasn't for you, your band and the music you make, I probably wouldn't be who I am today.

Your music became appealing to me when I was somewhere around 10 years old, give or take a few years. My dad, brother and I used to go to a local park and look for deer while my mom cooked dinner at home for us, and your song 'Unwell' would always come on as we were leaving to go home. I'm almost positive it was always around 6pm too. I knew the song by heart after a few weeks, but never knew who sang it.

One day, I got my first MP3 player, and I went to download the song. I found the name of your band, and I looked up more songs. Then, I figured out you went solo for a few albums, and I quickly fell in love. The day I found all your songs was the day my life truly began. My first concert that I ever even went to was the one at Jones Beach in NY on August 17th, 2013 where you played with the Goo Goo Dolls, that was amazing, and I totally cried when you came on stage.

I will never skip one song of yours when it comes on either on my phone or the radio, and I instantly break out into singing wherever I am, even if it's at work. You've tweeted me back a few times too, and that has made me the happiest fan ever.

One thing that I truly admire about you is your love for animals. You and your wife do so much for them, it's truly amazing. I love animals myself, so we totally have something in common! I also admire the fact that your music is different, it's the only thing I basically listen to other than some of the popular songs on the radio at the time or my favorite country songs. It's not the same as the rap you would hear now a days, and I appreciate that you still keep that class in the music industry.

If I ever felt like not trying, whether it was at school or just in life, I would listen to your music and it would make me realize that if you can be successful at what you do, I can be successful with whatever I do in my future. You're my idol.

Keep up the awesome music, I can't wait for many more years of amazing songs!

You're #1 Fan,

Katie.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
