This is an open letter to my friends who are not necessarily Cubs fans:
First, I would like to apologize for being busy during the next week or two. While you may not understand my current obsession with the next few weeks of baseball, I will try to make you understand what it's like to be a Cubs fan at this point in time.
Remember your FAVORITE Christmas, holiday, or birthday present? That moment where you were overjoyed, excited, and full of life?
What about that episode to your FAVORITE television show? Think Greys Anatomy, House of Cards, Marvel or DC movies, any Disney movie you've ever watched, The Office, or Harry Potter opening nights at the movie theaters.
Now imagine waiting for that...for 108 years. You keep hoping it comes, but suddenly the production halts and gets pushed back another year.
Cubs fans have been dealing with agony like that for many lifetimes.
From the likes of Sammy Sosa in '03, to last season's heartbreaking loss to the Mets. Back to the Future said the Cubs would win the World Series in 2015...that movie was released in 1985. The "Bartman Incident" in '03 was followed by a few rough at-bats for the Cubs, ultimately followed by the downfall of everything the team had going that year. Bartman has been off the grid for years. After receiving death threats and media attention, I don't blame him at all. Cubs fans should be, and hopefully are, ashamed he had to do that.
Postseason baseball is the definition of excitement. Friday night's grand slam by Miguel Montero, was EPIC. See it here http://m.cubs.mlb.com/chc/video/topic/47073408/v12.... That's 40,000+ people, inside and out of the ballpark, going absolutely BERSERK.The World Series is rare to win, especially for the Cubs.
It's like Jim finding Pam, what Harry means to Hogwarts, what Captain America means to the Avengers, Simba becoming king, finding McDreamy, or Finding Nemo.
It's only happened a few times in the last 108 years that the Cubs have even been close to clinching World Series Championship, so hopefully you can tolerate me for the next few weeks.
Sincerely,
A Life-long Cubs Fan.
