Dear Birth Parents,
Not only did you believe in me, you believed that I could have a better life. A life that you weren't able to give. And for the choice to put me up for adoption, I will be forever grateful.
If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have been brought into this lovely world, I wouldn't have met all of the people I know and have come to love today. Some days are better than others, but that's just the course of life.
Without your bravery, I wouldn't be surrounded by the family and friends I love. Without your strength to let go, I wouldn't be the girl I am today. I'm proud that you were able to make a decision like this for me so early into my life, knowing that this would be the better path for me to take. For you, I am forever grateful. You brought me into this world knowing that I could have something better than what I had. It was a blessing to know you cared so much about me. "If you love someone, you'll let go," and that's exactly what you did.
Dear Mom and Dad,
Without you, I would also not be who I am today. You were the people who came out of the blue, looking for someone to adopt a child from. For that, I am also forever grateful. Without your strength and bravery to take care of me, I wouldn't know everyone I know today either. You have taught me many life lessons that one may or may not be able to learn on their own. You gave me a roof over my head and 3+ meals a day to get me by. Also, you gave me a loving family, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends to lean on in times of need. Without you and them, I wouldn't have grown. You have given me experiences I wouldn't have been able to experience. I learned how to ride a bike, I learned how to fish, I learned how to swim. I also learned how to love in ways that many don't know are possible.
In this life you have given me, you have given me a path to walk down where I can say I'm extremely proud I'm here. This couldn't have been possible in many other places.
In being adopted, not many have the experience of meeting their birth parents. You gladly accompanied me to meet them and my older brothers. Knowing that family is something that means a lot to me, you didn't hesitate once. But, I thank you for your bravery and strength to keep me going, to keep me "in line" and somewhat sane over the years.
Not many know what it's like to be adopted or to adopt. It's such a unique experience, and it's a part of my life that I would never change for anything. It makes me unique too, it gives me a whole new outlook on life, and knowing both sets of parents cared so much about me to give me a better life means the world, and makes me want to do the same for someone else.
Thank you for caring, loving, and cherishing my life. Thank you for all the hard work and effort you all put into making sure I was in the best place I could be. Home. I couldn't picture my life in any other way.
Love Always,
Katie.
