My dearest Phillip,
To others, you’re just average, but to me you’re so much more than that. Your shiny bronze paint, two perfectly gleaming headlights, and impeccable rearview camera are more than meets the eye. We’ve only known each other for a little over a year now, yet you’re one of my truest of friends. I don’t know how my life ever functioned without you.
I’ve never met someone who listens to me rant and keeps my secrets so well. Occasionally you respond with “I’m sorry I didn’t get that” or “calling Mommy,” but I know you’re really just looking for the perfect words to say to make me feel better. You somehow know exactly how to read my mind and play the perfect song whenever the radio comes on. Only a true friend lets you talk for hours without telling you they don’t really care about anything you’re saying. Just know I’ll always listen to anything you have to tell me.
We’ve been through the worst and you’ve never given up on me. I vividly recall the time we were driving up the snow covered mountain attempting to make our way home. We were slipping and sliding all over the road. I was grabbing on to you with all the strength that I had. Every time I felt you starting to slip away, you surprised me and gave it your all. Because of you, we made it home safely that night. No rain, gravel, snow, or hail has every stopped us from going where we needed to go.
You’re my home away from home. I’ve packed you full of clothes and water to the point where I would be able to live out of you. You have never failed to remember any item that I knew I would forget. You’re the backup system for all the things I forget to do or take with me. Forgot my shirt for work and I found one in your back seat. Thought I was never going to make it home without hand sanitizer and you had some in your console. You’ve saved me from driving all the way back to my starting point many times and for that I thank you.
Before you, I always worried about being on time to places. I feared my engine would die or my tires would go flat. But now I’m able to place my full confidence in you. Your engine runs so smoothly and your tires travel effortlessly across the ground. I can leave on time and know you’re going to get me where I need to go. If it weren’t for you, I’d be spending a lot more time in my house instead of going places.
I can’t forget to thank you for all the times you saved me from hurting either of us. I wasn’t blessed with excellent depth perception and there’s been a time or two when I’ve almost hit another car, but you never let that happen. You’re backup camera starts flashing alerting me to hit the brake and saving us both from big trouble. My insurance company would not enjoy me as a client if it weren’t for you protecting us.
My wonderful Phillip- I know we have many great years ahead of us. I will treat you with the greatest of care knowing you always have my best intentions at heart. This past year has helped me realize how lucky I am to have you in my life. Thank you for being the best sidekick a girl could ever ask for.
