Dear Samuel H. Lockett Hall,
Oh, how good you have been to me.
With your odd numbering of rooms to your circular basement, life is never dull when we’re together.
You may smell a little odd but I love you all the same, even though I find myself constantly lost in Lockett.
You’re a jack-of-all-trades. In what other building could I have my math, Spanish and history classes all within feet of each other? It sure is convenient when I have to spend hours at a time with you without any hope for daylight.
Whoever designed a circular basement in a square building was a genius. Once you learn to use your elbows, fighting against the flow is easy. If I ever find myself late, I can just sneak through the back doors instead of making a scene in the front of class.
Your numbering isn’t confusing at all, even when you get the hang of it. Even though, logically, 211 is supposed to come after 209, I understand when it’s on the opposite end of the building. Because I get you, Lockett.
You’re so convenient. I love how I hop off the bus and I’m immediately welcomed by your presence. And you’re only a hop, skip and a jump away from the quad. You’re the perfect reference of when I should place my order on Tapingo.
You’re always keeping me on my toes. One day I may need a jacket and a scarf and the next a T-shirt will do just fine.
The man you’re named after has a pretty awesome mustache. I find this very important.
You have copious numbers of lefty desks. I am not a lefty myself, but I find that very considerate for students who are. Keep being thoughtful, Lockett.
I find myself missing you when I’m gone or our schedules just don’t match up this semester. A history class that’s not in Lockett? Eternal depression.
You’re never dull. Sure, you may have a couple spots on the floor or lights flickering, but that just adds to your character. You are a bright, shiny diamond in a sea of coal.
My love for you will never die, dear Lockett Hall. As long as I am a student here at LSU, I hope our paths cross. And even when I am long gone and graduated, I look forward to game days when I can look towards you and remember all of our good times together.
Never change, Lockett.
