All You Can Do Is Be Kind

We can't change how others treat us, but we can treat others with the respect everyone deserves.

All You Can Do Is Be Kind

Most of us Americans have the privilege of having a roof over our head, food on our table every night, clean water, the ability to openly express our opinion and allow others to express their opinion right along side of us. A lot of us are reading this article off of a smartphone or a $700 laptop that we think we need. If you are over 18, you had the choice to either vote or not to vote for the next President of the Uniter States. We have the advantage to attend or choose not to attend universities and continue our knowledge to build our own careers.

We live in a beautiful country of the free that is so free we forget what we are blessed with. We forget that starvation isn't just a myth and some women are giving birth to healthy babies on the floors of home with no healthcare assistance. It is hard to believe how truly blessed we are.

I plead with you to stay humble, stay generous, be selfless, give when you can give. In a country that doesn't seem so united anymore and full of hatred, discrimination, and the denial of our rights, we must remember what we CAN do in order to keep our country and our people united.

Be open minded. If your neighbor has a different viewpoint than you, listen, as you would want them to listen to you. Do not criticize, do not be hurtful, do not name call, and do not listen to the people who try and bring you down for being different from them. Don't let the words of another tear you down. We all have the same rights to speak our minds. We all have the same capability to listen and retain information.

Give when you can. Give your knowledge, donate your time, spare your change to the Salvation army buckets. Remember that we may all be helpless at times. Do on to others as you would wish be done on to you.

Be kind. Calling someone a hurtful name will not benefit you in any way. Commending someone on a job well done can go farther than you think. Never underestimate the power that words can have.

Tweeting something will never solve anything. If you want a problem to be solved, we have to act on it. You are not alone in your views, and if we stand together we create an army. Never underestimate the power of your voice. You have the ability to change the world.

In a nation so seemingly full of hate, we must be courageous enough to stand against the negativity and spread nothing but uplifting positivity. Do not hate. I beg of you DO NOT HATE. Respect one another. Never assume the worst in people. Listen. Stay gracious. Spread positivity.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
