The summer before recruitment, I didn’t know which house I was going to run home to, who my Big or Little was going to be or the sorority letters that would be printed across the majority of my wardrobe.
Fast-forward to now, and with a life full of taco dates, never-ending lines outside the best place to go on a Thursday night and countless laughs — I know that I am home.
Looking back on the recruitment process, it is clear to me that people join people. They don't join based on the letters outside the door, “tiers” or whichever house their best friend loves.
I am forever grateful to the women who talked and listened to me throughout my recruitment process. These women stole a little piece of my heart and kept it for me to run back to on Bid Day.
To all my sisters, those girls that are always down to grab food, study and procrastinate. My future bridesmaids and most importantly, my family — here are a few things that I cant thank you enough for:
Trusting me enough to pay you back on Venmo.
I swear the most used phrase in any college girls life is, “Can I Venmo you?” I’m not sure if my sisters enjoy reading the witty comments under the payments or actually receiving the money more, but I will go with option number one.
Treating "Taco Tuesday" as a national holiday.
With a college class load, we all need some tacos in our lives to heal the soul. Luckily, there are always plenty of sisters ready and willing to accompany me. I would like to personally thank Tijuana Flats for facilitating my sisters and I during this weekly bonding session.
Being my personal Rate My Professor.
When you have 100+ sisters to get the real scoop on professors from the last thing you need is a website. Thank you for always keeping me up-to-date on which professors to take and which to run from. To this day, I have yet to experience a bad professor because I am only one Facebook post away from knowing which professor will be most willing to help. My grades and sanity thank you.
Keeping me in line when I go out.
Everything seems like a good idea when you’re out with your best friends. You automatically think you’re the best singer or dancer and that nobody can stop you from going all out. Once "Hit the Quan" comes on, there is no going back. Luckily, I have my sisters to remind me that I don’t belong on "American Idol" and to save that signing for our road trips.
Showing me the importance in philanthropy.
I never knew philanthropy would be making such a difference in my college career as it has thus far. Raising money for such an important cause makes me feel like I am making a difference in my life, which is the ultimate goal. The smile on the face of the people we are helping is enough to get me through anything, and I owe it all to you for pushing me to keep going.
Giving me a family.
With my biological family miles away it means the world that I have girls to support me and keep a smile on my face. The confidence that my best friends have given me while being apart of my sorority is indescribable. Without even realizing it, I have become one of the sisters I looked up to while I was a new member.
At this point I can’t tell the love I feel from my family and yours apart. Love, is the greatest of all things.
