After The Election, These Are Things You Can Look Forward To

There is more than just rain and disappointment outside.

After The Election, These Are Things You Can Look Forward To

Today, when I thought about writing my weekly article, the blank space felt weird, almost foreign. Everyone has been talking about the election's aftermath and what the world should expect following these events. Honestly, it is important to acknowledge that the entire world feels, up until some extent, uncomfortable. We're all wondering what is going on. However, I want to do something different. Let's acknowledge the good things you might be experiencing now or that you can look forward too.

1. If you have a dog, he or she will be completely happy to receive you every time you go back home.

They will always be there for you!

2. If you are currently doing the job you've always hoped for, keep it up!

You are doing what you've always wanted, and you might have had to go through a lot of rough patches to stay there.

3. Food is good.

Treat yourself to your favorite meal. Savor it.

4. If you are in college, we're already in November.

Sure, you might be caught up with midterms, papers, written responses, reading and, on top of that, election aftermath! Everything feels overwhelming!

a. If you are a freshman, take your time to realize you are almost done with your first semester in college. You have almost made it all by yourself!

b. If you are a senior, every single step you take gets you closer to graduation day. Enjoy every day you have with the ones you hold close to your heart on campus. Keep up the good work and, even if your future looks gloomy now, you have some tools to go out into this world and try to make things better.

5. If you happen to have a car, there is a world outside that you can discover.

So many waterfalls you haven't been to, so many little, beautiful towns to walk through. We get too caught up with life and, every once in a while, a small adventure can bring some joy.

6. If you are not an outdoorsy person, there are several movies you haven't seen on Netflix that might become your new favorite film.

If you still feel discouraged with the election's result after reading this list, know that you can still change things. Don't be discouraged if it didn't go your way. Some of us come from places where we have had to deal with 10, 15, 20 years of constant political turmoil and, yet, we wake up every morning hoping we can change something. Know that, if there is something you can absolutely do in the United States, it's have a voice loud enough to be heard. It's an uphill battle right now, but if you are willing to wake up every morning and work to change what you see outside, you will make it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
