7 Pieces Of Advice To Incoming College Freshmen From A New Sophomore

Going into only my sophomore year of college, I understand I am no master of the college experience. However, as those in the grade below me head off to their first year, I found that I have been asked for different pieces of advice as they are all extremely excited but also nervous.

1. Relax!

Everything is going to work out. Everyone is in the same boat as you. There's no need to be up at night worrying or freaking out if you will make friends. Just enjoy the rest of your summer.

2. Don't wait until the night before to pack.

This will cause you to become the most stressed human ever. Take the week before and slowly start getting things together. You will want to save your last day to saying goodbye to friends and family anyways.

3. Spend time with your family.

This isn't as much about you as it is for them. No one (and I am certain of this) will miss you as much as they do. They will really appreciate you putting aside the time for some family time.

4. Don't waste your time reading the summer reading.

Sorry, probably not the most academically inclined advice! But I was supposed to read two different books and yet was never asked to hand in the questions for one and never talked about the other so I never regretted not reading.

5. Have some last fun days with your friends.

Leaving will be tough, I'm not going to lie. I remember the night before I left sitting in my house with my friends all crying. It will help though when you miss them thinking about all of the good memories you have shared together.

6. Leave your high school SO behind.

Unpopular opinion but long distance relationships don't ever work. I'm sure you plan on marrying your high school sweetheart, but chances are that it is not going to happen because someone will be unfaithful (not trying to be negative but I've seen it happen too many times). You will have way more fun going into college single.

7. Don't freak out as soon as you get there.

The first two nights of school I was a mess. I thought I didn't like it and wanted to go home. By the third night, however, I found that I was liking it more and I now love school so much. Do not give up right away and know that it will be hard at first.

Hope this helps!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
