Your freshman year is full of so many firsts. For most it's the first time joining clubs, first time going to homecoming, and it may even include your first date or prom. Whatever it includes, just make sure it's worth it. This is my advice to all you little "freshies."
1. Join as many clubs as you can.
You might think some of them are stupid, but all of them are fun. Join book club, gaming club, even math club. You will make great friends and go on super fun field trips. If you're not in it for the fun then they look great on scholarships in four years.
2. Become a member of as many sports teams as you can.
Your teammates become your family. You will be able to rely on them for everything. Sports are also a great way to meet people from other schools and to stay active. My favorite memories from high school come from either the court or the locker room.
3. Don't be scared of the upperclassmen.
They will give you a hard time, but they don't mean anything bad about it. They respect you more when you can joke back. They were in the same position as you were not that long ago. Never be afraid to ask them for help with a locker combination or homework.
4. Don't take it too seriously, but don't slack off.
High school is meant to be enjoyed, but you also have to keep your grades up. These four years will be full of memories. So if your friends invite you out, just go. Chances are you'll regret it if you don't, Also, go to all the games. Go to the basketball games, football games, and baseball games. It is always fun to go to everything that you can.
5. Be cautious of the boys.
A lot of the guys you will encounter will be temporary in your life unless you really find a good one. Don't chase the boys, let them chase you. Know that the next four years should be focused on you and your friends, not on how many boys like you.
6. Don't give in to peer pressure.
I'm sure you've heard this a million times from your parents, but its completely true. Don't let your friends talk you into something you don't feel comfortable with. In the end, you will have so much respect for yourself.
The next four years will be great as long as you allow them to be. Don't take yourself too seriously. Know that you are young and everything will be a learning experience. Always remember you will make it.
