To start off, this article is not to help sway you for one candidate or the other. The purpose is to get people to check their sources and be the most informed (in the least bias fashion possible) voters they can be. That being said, I'd like you to think of the big media outlets that you receive you news from. Chances are this media outlet is rather bias within the facts that it chooses to disclose, or "facts" that is chooses to disclose. Whether you think your media outlet is bias or not, there are most likely better indicators of critical information outside of the media, I believe that one of the most important indicators is the world of Academia.
If we take a moment to think about it, what is the purpose of academia? In simple terms academia is a collection of people who are gathered together to use shared knowledge to further and better that shared knowledge about how the world works. To me, this sounds like a great opportunity to compare what we hear in the media to cold hard facts. Student and professors are in the lab and in the classrooms currently trailblazing and studying about the problems our country faces today. It would only make sense to ask not only the "esteemed experts" about what they think about the candidates plans, but some people with a fresh set of eyes, ears, and information.
Throughout our lives, my generation has been told that we are the future of the world. Regardless of the countless times I've heard this expression, it still doesn't feel as though our generation is looked to in times of big decision. take a look for answers to your questions in some new places. For too long we have accepted the current political system's state as "Just the way the world works." What happens when old ways fail and the way the world works suddenly stops working?
We have the resources to become educated voters by using the world of academia to check facts. All it takes is a little digging which, sadly, most Americans are too lazy to do. This is the same laziness that crooked politicians count on when they buy your media outlets to give you the messages they want you to hear. I urge you, refuse to be spoon-fed lie after lie and decide for yourself who the best candidate is based off of today's most recent findings and information at your fingertips.
